Is the 'Red Rose' version of the Tuscan worth having? What does it actually give you and is it worth paying the extra to have one?

IIRC the Red Rose developed as a name for a Tuscan with ALL the extras. As a marketing tool it failed and hence the later distinction between the "basic" Tuscan (that's a bit of an oxymoron, isn't it? ) and the "S".

If you consider that all the extras, including such things as a/c, hydratrak, better disks and with 18" wheels and a slightly breathed on engine would add up to the difference of about 10k then it might be worth it.

(I am, however, slightly confused that the geometry for early cars was set up for 16" wheels, they're now set up for 18" and so there would appear to be some tweaking to do in the middle?)

The only one I have seen under the bonnet had "Red Rose" scrawled in black marker pen across the block in true TVR factory style so, outwardly at least, you can't tell them as anything special.

The Red Rose version had 18" wheels, upgraded suspension, upgraded brakes & 20 BHP more and this was a £4K option. It seemed quiet a lot at the time.

it was a £4200 option at the time, it was worth it for bigger wheels, suspension and brakes, engine specification the same as later Tuscan S.

Obviously now it is a highly sought after specification increasing the price of these cars by thousands....

PS. You can externally tell an early RR car by looking at the front brake discs as they have a row of allen key bolts around the inner rim of the disc securing it to the hub.

As far as I can remember the standard Tuscan came out first, then the factory made available a Red Rose performance version. This had better brakes (the original Tuscan brakes were not drilled), allegedly better suspension setup, gas discharge lights, DAB radio, aircon and 20bhp more. I think the diff was still as standard.

At the time I thought it very overpriced and just stuck 18" wheels and aircon on my car as options (like quite a few people). By the time my car was built it came with drilled brakes as standard.

About the time the S came out (basically RR + some spoilers + another 10bhp), some suspension mods seemed to have been introduced to all cars. There also seems to be various tyre sizes fitted (on 18") with the S settling down to the same size all round (255/35). The standard car runs smaller tyres on the front than the back.

Sorry, what was the question ? Is the RR worth it - I wouldn't restrict yourself to testing one type of car - work out which ones drives best for you as there is probably a variation between any two cars even if supposed to be the same.

Cheers,

Andy.

The Red Rose option was announced at the 99 earls court motorshow, when I ordered my Tuscan with the RR option.

The RR £4200 option always was:
18" Wheels
Bigger Brakes
Firmer suspension
Modified engine to include extra 20 bhp.

Any other options ie A/C, hydratrack etc was extra on top of the above.

When the Tuscan S was released it included the above RR options plus as standard, A/C, colour coded boot carpet and front and rear spoilers.

Hope that clarifys things !

Cheers
