Perspex rear screen blew out whilst on the M11 a few days ago, for no obvious reason (was properly attatched). Anyway has now got a few scratches and needs to be replaced,im just glad it didn't hit anything !! Must admit it felt like the last straw when I got home and the left hand exhaust can looked like it was about to drop off. Thankfully it didn't im sure that could cause some damage hitting the road at motorway speeds and flying off into the air.Got the tool kit out and am pretty sure even if the rest of the car falls to bits the can is on for good. Started to think very seriously about a XKR, but have had a really good drive in her today and I just don't think anything is going to be able to replace the Tuscan and even if I do swap (soon to become a father, god willing).
I would always feel short changed. Have convinced the wife that the cerbera is a 'family car' and she beleives me (shes yet to go in one) so that may be a route out....

Anyway purpose of this mail was to find out A) cost of replacement rear screen. B) anybody else had a problem with the leather peeling badly from the rear parcel shelf?
I should have this done before I even think of selling.

If I decide to keep the car I wouldn't mind spending on having some re-trim, lamonta on roof, door panels etc. Anybody taken this route? Ideas on cost much appreciated.

As a final Q. any views on the XKR? ( Dont mind if you say its crap,in one way it makes life easier ;-)

Sorry to hear about your problems, your right though what can compare to a drive in a TVR?

Email RCA (profile in members) as he has a `contact' on that front

I'd say that being in the car behind when the rear screen lets go would come quite close in the excitement stakes

Sorry to hear about your mishap.
There was someone on here who could get new rear screens. They were a slightly differant design to the original, wider with cut outs.
I had a quick search but haven't found the link. They were also advertising in the parts classifieds but i couldn't find it there either.I think they were around £90,with a choice of blue or green tint.
I'm not much help realy am i?Maybe someone else will remember who it was.
Good luck

BTW, did you have the roof off when the screen blew out?

Thanks to all for your help and kind words.

TSS , yes the main roof was on!! Weird. I did once have the top (main) roof fly off at 70 plus, that was really, very scary indeed.

As for being the driver behind, give me the perspex screen anyday ;-)

By the grace of god that didn't hit anything either but needed a respray etc.Once i managed to find it! (can smile about it now but at the time, it could have caused a terrible amount of carnage and no doubt seen your's truly behind bars)

Thankfully cost picked up by the dealer since the roof wasn't properly attatched after pick up from them (happened on the drive home).

Anyway will check out the non official screens as suggested, probably a better fit.

Any ideas on retrim costs anyone?

sorry, but that first quote made me laugh so much!

then, the xkr is just like an xjr, except for the obvious. we have an xjr, and have been out in the xk. while its a lovely car, and is great for a saloon, i just cant imagine the xk being a replacement for a tiv! ok, so ive only been out in one tiv (actually thats another story) but i just cant see any comparison. especially with the sound, we always say that the jag is toooo quiet.

dont know if i make any sense, but just some thoughts . gl anyway

The exhaust can hanging low but being well and truely secure could be the weld between the pipe and the silencer box giving way, mine had gone and the can was hanging low, a quick trip to Tower View and 15 minutes with the welding gear and all was well and the cans are back to being the right height

Check the weld as if it is going eventually the whole can and rear pipe will drop off!!
