and no it's not from my bottom!

When I 'give it some' from a standing start I've noticed a strange burning smell wafting in my window. It's not a rubbery smell, more the sort of smell you get with brake binding, but as it tends to disappear after the initial burst I figured it has nothing to do with the breaks.

Any thoughts, I'm off to Italy in it next week and don't want to have to rely on the Italian equivalent of the AA to help me out in an emergancy!

Cheers

No no no, under hard acceleration, you may be slipping it too much, I did it last night in the Onion, it's very easy to do. Unless you have been doing it constantly for ages, I wouldn't have thought it was on its way out though.

I think your description fits. I tend to stick a load of revs on and let the clutch out slow to stop wheel spin. Sounds like I'm slipping it .I ought to try to correct my bad habit (do it in my Rover Coupe as well).

I shall go on holiday with a bit more peace of mind ...

oww....not a good idea to slip the clutch in a Tuscan. All that power being forced through your clutch plates...

Think of the clutch in a tuscan as a switch, either on or off and control your acceleration with the throttle pedal...

My thoughts exactly!

Kind of figure that a bit of wheels spin and a bit less rubber is likely to be cheaper than a burnt out clutch.

Drove this morning in an enthusiatic way without slipping the clutch. Far less smelly and I felt far more mechanically sympathetic when I got out of the car!
