My car has been wandering quite badly at speed on the motorway requiring constant steering input to correct it. My mechanic has put the car on the ramp and pointed out that 6 of the 8 lower wishbone bushes are shot to bits, which would explain it!

He has recommended a harder bush(!) but I don't know where to get them. Has anyone any experience of where I might be able to find some?

This would be very rare if that's what he's found .. but the only way to better the location of the std TVR bush is to go for spherical rod ends .. the rubber in the std bush is so low profile that there's virtually no movement anyway. I guess he's talking about poly bushes, if so make sure he knows that all but the hardest poly bush offers WORSE location that the std bush...

so do you think that std ones are the most sensible replacement?

I saw the bushes and they were split through the rubber and a small screwdriver levered against the chassis pickup point made the wishbone move 3-4mm.

ah .. you'll be talking about the compliance bushes probably then, they often take on that appearance cos people don't tighten them up with the car at normal running height so they twist and break apart. They're designed to move so don't be alarmed if you can move them with a screwdriver. if however you're talking about the smaller bushes being split and moving then you have a serious problem somewhere cos I've never seen the smaller bushes go like that in the 13 or so years TVR have been using them ...
