Hi all

I'm looking at buying a second hand Tuscan (I currently have a Chimera 4.0) and would like to hear you views on whether it's worth forking out an extra few thousand (I'm really stretching myself to spend £30k) to get the extra power and handling performance that comes with the Red Rose or S model? I know it's a no brainer if a few thousand difference is of no consequence, but it is to me so please answer within that context!

Cheers.

i went from Chim 400 to Tuscan the last thing the Tuscan needs is more power you will leave ALL Chims for dust on part throttle what the earley standard car needs is better suspension to use the available power unfortunatly your budget will not stretch to the "s" so you will have to look at a RR I have RR suspension on mine however it`s still not perfect drive both if you can and make your own mind up
having said that it took me a while to be fully confident in the Tuscans handling my car has just been disgnoised with stripped threads on the front rollbar my dealer has soughted this and has said it now handles considerably better so maybe thats why i had my doubts over its handling good luck with your search

I was in the same position when i traded up from my griff i also had 30K to spend.
Although it is tempting to go for an early RR if you look long and hard there are bargains to be had. After reading all the horror stories i decide to go for the latest car possible.TVR seem to have ironed out most of the problems with the later cars.
If you have the balls for it buy privately,You can still buy a warranty but you can buy a much newer car for the money.
Rob ingelby seems to be good at finding cars he found mine in the exact spec i wanted. 2500K on the clock and it was only 15 months old.
Good luck Lee

The standard Tuscan has PLENTY of power. Way more than you'll ever need if you fancy keeping you licence, job, and criminal record free.

If your on a budget, buy the standard model and keep the rest for emergency repairs (like the engine going pop).

And so he runs for cover from the flaming that's about to ensue.

I ordered a standard car over a RR (would have turned up as an S) as I didn't think it was worth the premium charged. As a used purchase, the price difference between the two models should have closed up so may be worth it. So if you want 20->30bhp more, slightly different suspension, a DAB radio, air con, lights (which will be more expensive to replace) and colour coordinated carpet in your boot, go for a RR. But you might just save some money and just get a standard car with air con. I would recommend you drive each to see what you like best.

Cheers,

Andy.

Editted to add on the track I've overtaken and been overtaken by S's - so if you want to go fast spend the money on driver training!

Thanks for your input everyone - it sounds like a standard Tuscan or RR is the way to go. (I also see the point about paying for driver training to make me go faster! )

Can I ask, if I go for the RR version, does it have the 'aerodynamic aids' that come with the S? Purely from an aesthetic point of view I'm not particularly enamoured with the rear spolier on the S...

Cheers.

No the RR is outwardly same as standard.

I'd get a standard Tuscan with air con and spend a grand on Nitron shocks (which is actually what I have done). I understand that the RR suspension is still not as good as the Nitron kit. Reading other threads, the most powerful Tuscan Jools at Joospeed has dynod was a standard car, not an RR.

I had a Chim 500 and sold and baught a Tuscan S. Bloody hell I can`t believe it. The venom it spits is awesome and shoots up to 130+ in no time. I`ve been very scared but it drives a dream. Problem is I`m tempted to smoke the rear bumper wazzoks every time like a Subaru Imprezza that I waved goodbye to on the A51. Any way ony 3 points so far on the licence.

The RR doesn't have any aero mods like the S. If I were buying a standard Tuscan I would definately buy the front splitter and get Nitrons...

Also make sure it has the suspension geometry mods made to older Tuscans.
