Well, the weekend's here again, and now that the flying-beasty count is lower, I thought I'd give her a bit of TLC. Having only been a Tuscan owner for a few months, I was just wondering what other people use to make their beast look it's best.

Is it worth polishing a new (ish) car? Will polishing with an abrassive polish (autoglym and the likes) have any positive effect, baring in mind there are (I guess) several layers of laquer before getting to the paint itself? Is wax an option?

She has to be looking her best for the TMS open day, so come on, let me into your secrets! What do you guys n' gals use?

Many thanks in anticipation.

I use Zymol Concours on my M3 - it requires a bit of effort but makes the car really shine. www.zymol.co.uk. Make sure you are sat down when you look at the prices !

I use the loud pedal

No one can see the dirt if you go fast enough

Graham - driven, not polished

I also use Zymol and yes it is expensive and your car will smell like a Coconut for a while.

Have used the Autoglym products for years with good results, although ordered a Zymol kit today hope it's worth it as it was quiet expensive.

Suggest you ask Colin aka "Pies" His car has the most ridiculous deep shine I have ever seen. Absolutely incredible, like glass.

Thanks for for your help!! So there is a benefit to be had in polishing it, despite the layers of laquer.

I agree. The best way to make our cars look good is to drive them, and what a superb chance we all had last weekend. First to the TMS open day, which was great and then to Derby with friends. The best day in my car so far. Magic!!

"Pies", are you out there. And just how do you get such a glassy shine (if you dont mind me asking!!??)

Hi im here

Getting it shinney (keep out Podie) is effort and application of various techniques and products

As is frequently said on another site "no one product is a solution

This is the full monty

After a rince

Wash with a strong shampoo (for the first wash in a "routine" i use fairy liquid)many here will say never use fairy but this is a one of wash designed to strip all wax/polish etc off the car

re rince

Clay (optional)

Scratch X (where necerrary)

3m swirl remover - repeat

P21S gepc a very mild polish - repeat

megs premium paint protection - 2 coats this offers no shine but good protection

Blitz wax - one coat

P21S wax - Layer after Layer of the stuff over weeks

do not rush to put one layer of any WAX straight after the previous one allow at least an hour

Do not use very strong solutions of car wash on weekly basis or your just strip the waxes of (i use Johnsons baby shampoo)

HTH

Remember what products work good for me might not work well on your car ,but i doubt

Use microfibre towels, makes the job easier a pack opf three for £6 from homebase

Work in straight lines

P.S my car is currently absolutely disgusting a rare sight i hope

I never realised it was such a science!!! Its a fair point about not washing off the wax thats already on. Sounds like I need to get down the shops (and set aside a day or two!!). Thanks Pies

Geez pies - are you for real? This lot will take bloody hours, and you'll have arms like popeye as a result! Depending on how may washes you do, and how many layers of wax, and assuming you clay (whatever that means) and also counting rinses, I make it somewhere north of 15 seperate applications of stuff to the car. Will that be you getting the car ready for the Austec Open Day tomorrow then? I'm planning a trip down so will bring my sunglasses to avoid being blinded when I check out your handywork.

I'll be the one in the un-shiny silver Cerbera.
