Have you been caught in heavy rain or washed the car recently...

This error often appears after a thorough soaking. It usually goes after a few miles of the engine running at temperature. If it doesn't clear it could be a pod fault - the conventioanl wisdom seems to say that if you get it and the car still runs OK it's probably not terminal...

It can also be caused by a dodgy lambda sensor which will in turn over fuel the car and trash the cats, or, the car going out of tune and needing to be tweaked (the ECU does some self adjustment but once ot goes too far out of adjustment it will give an EFI error)

Of course it could be that the Electronic Fuel Injection system has gone a bit FUBAR but I would then suspect you would know by the fact the engine stopped working!

Best to get it checked by the dealer, thay can plug in the laptop and get the error codes and see what is causing the EFI warning - better to be safe than sorry, especially given certain warranty companies desire to blame owners for not getting engines looked at sooner when they have a rebuild claim

I was once told that the only way to clear the fault was by a dealer who inturn could then tell what the fault was...

Best advice is as above, visit to the dealer if its not water induced (washing car)

Or use the reset button on the ecu!

That would clear the error and stop it being reported, but you would never know what caused it......

Treat the problem, not the symptoms!!

In the early days late 2000 early 2001 I had the fault appear at least four times and on each occasion I had the car recovered by the dealer.Outcome! sensor, everytime. I was also informed by my dealer at the time,do not try to reset by scrolling!! ,hope this helps.

I had it on my car for several days, I booked in to the dealer (who reackoned that it was a pod fault becasue of other problems) and it has subsequently cleared itself! Wierd.

Hi my Lambda sensor went awol a week or so ago and Nick Elliot asked the question re warning from pod. Lo and behold he was right, my EFI warning was showing but somewhat stupidly I chose to ignore it. Not saying thats your prob but certainly it identified mine.
