I am sure that this issue has been posted before but I could not find any threads.

I have recently noticed a gradual reduction in the idle speed doen to about 500 rpm? This has now cumulated into the occaisional stall or almost stall without a blip of the loud pedal?

Can anyone clue me in??

I have had the same problem since my engine work, idle speed is 5-600 which on ignition or at standstill means nearly stalling without blipping the throttle.

Normal idle should be 7-800 rpm. Get your dealer to up it next time your there.

It can also be an indication that the valve clearences are closing up & need re-shimming.

Mine has also slipped down to 500 and now the low oil pressure warning comes on when it idles really slow.

I don't suspect a problem but put it down to low tickover.

Does anyone else have this problem or am i just the lucky one.

Me too....I had mine increased...basically switch on the a/c and let both radiator fans come on (so the revs will have dropped to their lowest at tickover) and set to 800rpm.

It means that when these are not on, its around 900, but that's fine with me...makes cold start tickover a little quicker too.

Gradualy dropping idle speed could indicate engine issues. Had this issue which was finaly diagnosed as loss of compression on cylinders. -> Rebuild.

Or on the other hand it might be something simple such as a screw losing its thread.

I had this problem... Would stall at junctions and was really rough. I took it back to the dealer and it was nothing more serious than the throttle potentiometer needed adjusting. They fixed it in under a day and I had the car back.

After that it idled brilliantly and I had no further problems! Suggest you get it sorted either way as if left unattended the problem may get worse or cause other problems!

Had the same thing - idling too low, so had to give it a bit of revs on startup (although idled fine at about 700 thereafter).

Dealer adjusted TBs (so they tell me) and it's now idling about 900 with no air con etc on. SOunds much healthier for it.

Have to agree with Nick and Salty. Mine started with revs droping got down to around 300rpm, Phoned dealer for advise, Took car in, next thing they told me Valve Guides gone. Back to TVR Power.

Hope yours is just idle adjustment. Fingers Crossed.
Opps That dreaded word fingers.

Keep us posted.

Had the same problem. Factory set the idle speed to 800 3 months ago. No problem.

Yep mine to. Clearly when its cold its close to the stall but I was advised by TVR engineers to rev for 1 min at 1700-2000 and then drive off, clearly observing the engine/oil temperatures until at the right temps. Since I have been doing this the revs say at 800/900.

I really appreciate all of you assistance and comments. My car is now a year old and although I had oil/filters etc. changed when I purchased in July she should be serviced. I have decided as this is a major service I will take the car back to the UK and I assume that I can take her to any authorised dealer for the work. I have almost 5.000 miles now and close to 6.000 by the time I get back to UK so it makes sense to get it done now and have this problem checked out.I purchased the car at Henley but I really want the best for the service now. Who do you recommend...I want the best I can get.

Since you are out of the country, I would suggest going to the factory for servicing purley due to parts availability, if the car is in Blackpool, they can get the parts immediately instead of a dealer having to order them and wait for them to arrive
