In view of recent posts I would say go into the purchase with eyes wide open. You do have every chance of experiencing some teething probs but either buy a car privately where you know the history, or go to a dealer where you may get a warranty. The latter may be preferable. Rest assured the driving experience wont leave you disappointed.

I was in the same position as you, this is a tough one to answer. All I can say is buy as new a model as possible, read all the posts here, I did and decided not to buy one. The main reason did not buy, was because an honest main dealer who had 2 in stock at 28000, told me to buy one manufactured after 2001. It was more than I could afford so I walked away, doesn't mean I like the car any the less though, I think they are a beautiful looking car. On a more positive note a mate of mine owned a 2001 model from new, covered 12000 miles and did not have one problem.
Buy from a TVR dealer and make sure you get a good solid warranty. Obviously you will pay more but i think the peace of mind would be worth it.
Also make sure you really can afford to run it, consider at least a £1000 a year for servicing, £1000 a year for insurance, £1000 a year on tyres and brakes etc. As awesome as the Tuscan is they do cost a bit to keep them running.
Still in my opinion every penny is worth it, i love mine and wouldn't want any other car.

Do it. I bought my July 2000 car privately from a pistonheads member so I knew what had been done to it over the previous year or so. I know it may be a risk buying without warranty and dealer backup but the car had a rebuild with new head late 2002 so hopefully a little less chance of problems.
I love the car and even if anything does happen, the £3-4k I saved over buying from a dealer should cover a large chunk of any cost. What the hell, you only live once.

I went from a chim to a tuscan myself last April.
Get as new as possible by all means, but also make sure the mileage is reasonable for the age.
2-3 year old cars with circa 5000 miles are just wrong IMHO.
The cars are designed and built to be driven and again IMHO reliability is directly related to regular usage.
As for the oft spoken about engine problems, i went for a car post-12000 mile service and made careful enquiries about previous engine mods/problems/solutions etc, but nothing is certain, again IMHO.
Other than the usual checks etc etc go for it.
