Mine's back now (returned yesterday). Started the painful process of running in (again), for another 1000 miles. Nice to be able to see her on the driveway though, and jump in and go for a drive (albeit a little slower than normal )
It is true, the cars, when running, do make it so easy to forget all the problems. But I'm still not 100% happy with TVR, since it feels like they'll take advantage of this at any chance. Out of sight, out of mind...?
- still no close ratio box. It was my choice to spec this on my original Tuscan spec-list that pushed my price up close to that of the S and made me go the whole hog. Obviously it's standard equipment on the S but wasn't in stock when my car was built so it was delivered with a standard box and a note included with the car to say it would be supplied and fitted as soon as possible. Well, other cars have had their boxes in the last 18 months, and so to be without one, 18 months later, isn't really on. I feel a little let down by my dealer as well, for not keeping on top of this, seeing as I have brought it up with them a number of times and essentially the car is still not complete as was ordered.
- two engine rebuilds in the space of 18 months isn't really acceptable either - especially when it has meant the car has been off the road a total of 14 weeks *just* for this fault.
I really don't mind the rest of the little niggles because I don't expect perfection. I've had faulty window encoders, rattles from the engine bay, failed air-con, failed lambda sensors etc. but I can live with those. They haven't really caused me a huge amount of inconvenience, and I expect smaller issues like these, that can be fixed relatively quickly and easily. I just don't like not having my car for 2 months in the middle of the summer!
Anyways, let's see how long it lasts this time. I'm hoping that's the last time the engine goes back to the factory!

My S was one of the first made, out of factory May 2001. I bought the car back in June this year and the close ratio box for it eventually arrived in July (fitted in August)so thats 2 years 2 months wait. For me it was just 6 weeks but the guy who owned it before me must have been very p*ssed off never having got it. Hopefully it won't be that long for you.

There's no way any road-going engine in a car like this that only lasts 1800 miles is anything but faulty by design and/or parts.
What went wrong - camshaft/followers?

Looks likes it is bottom end trouble, and I was told that the engine was rebuilt from top to bottom...
This is really getting to me now, and I might just get the car done and sell it. I'm fed up with the car being at the dealers or at Power...
The really crap bit was that I sold a very very reliable Chimaera with only 11k on the clock and then bought this one and it has been a disaster. The new Speed Six engines 'might' be sorted, but this will soon be my only car and I cannot afford it to be in off the road for lenght of time. I feel I might be leaving the TVR marquee with a bitter taste.
