As a potential Tuscan owner, how about a thread to encourage people like me into the *terrible* world of Tuscan ownership?

Eveytime I come onto this forum I hear stories about how bad a Tuscan has been for reliability, and how nasty it was/is to own one of the little bastards.

Yet I also hear how the people who've got reliable cars don't come on here talking about them because 'good news travels faster than bad news'

SO...Could every one with a good Tuscan experience please drop a line here and tell us how trouble-free their motoring has been, and maybe public opinion could be reversed.

Had it seven months, can't resist the temptation to drive it every time I see it or even think about it.

I think it's truly gorgeous (and it replaced a Series 1 E-Type in my garage) and it goes and sounds like nothing else I've ever driven. My only niggles have been tiny ones (as you would expect with a hand built low production sportscar but also get with brand new Jags, Range Rovers, S Class Mercs etc.. as I know from experience) and they have been dealt with promptly and expertly by HHC.

The design touches, from the curvaceous exterior and unique access systems to the incredible interior with it's individual switchgear, pedal box etc.. make me proud that a small BRITISH company can produce something so individual and special for so little money.

Every time I look at it I feel like this;

dick dastardly,

Good on you! Well I've had mine from new since 1st March and all I can say is wow! This car is fast, and now that I have had the opportunity to take it on a track day and down Bruntingthorpe I now know how fast....

The car has been improved immensely in terms of quality and reliability over the earlier cars, in fact when Simon RO of the Cotswolds region sat as a passenger and gave me great instruction at Keevle he was amazed at the handling of the new Tuscan S as the car was so stable under braking....and as has been said what you going buy in terms of newer cars when TVR are putting the speed 6 in them!!!

The reaction this car gets when I take it out on the road 'everytime' is just amazing. People will stop and stare, people will hoot their horns, give thumbs up etc etc.

So the newer cars are better but the older cars are also just as good (not all have broken!!) Yep there will always be niggles etc but hey all other sports cars have the same, the Tuscan is no different. But sit a Tuscan next to a Porsche or Ferrari and the Tuscan gets the most admiring looks.

Go for it you won't regret it!

Alan.

I agree A Tuscan is what I really really want next. However, if I used Pistonheads in researching tuscans like I used it for researching griffs there's no way I would part with my dosh - especially on a private trade!

More happy stories please!

This thread is exactly what has been needed for AGES! I am soooo sick of all the negative posts on PH that I've almost stopped bothering with the forums.

I started with a standard 4Ltr Tuscan in 2001 and covered over 30,000 miles in 2 years including 2 major European tours of 2000+ miles apiece. I traded that car for a new S at Easter this year and have so far covered 6000 miles including our biggest tour yet - 5 countries, 2 weeks and over 2000 miles.

The build quality of the S is better than the previous car, so TVR are gradually sorting the problems out. My first car did have an engine rebuild, but this was handled superbly by my dealer.

I too am extremely proud that a 'small' English company can produce a car of this significance, which gets soooo many admiring looks and comments, gives sooo much reward to me, and 99% of the time has me grinning from ear to ear!

Hopefully we will soon get

...sigh, another 'I love my Tuscan cos its brill!' thread...

Ours has had a few niggles but, coming from ownership of classic cars where things can be much worse, you just get on with it. Yep, there are issues with the factory, with some dealers, and with some cars (which is totally disappointing and I am sure you were gutted when it happened) but if you don't like it or can't deal with/handle the problems, get rid and quit posting over and over again! Anyone worth their salt will do a search anyway and see the problem threads!

So, on a much more upbeat note, here are a few fantastic things about owning a Tuscan:

1. Driving it.
2. Opening the garage and looking at it and think 'oh my god am I dreaming - this is my car!
3. Sitting in it.
4. Listening to the engine scream as you take it well into the revs - such an erotic sound!
5. Other people rubbernecking (very much a vanity/ego thing here going on, but I bet I am not the only one to allow themselves to feel a bit guiltily smug about this!)
6. Getting an instant face-lift when you put your foot down - well none of us are getting any younger are we
7. Driving it.
8. Driving it.
9. Driving it.
10. Laughing out loud when you are driving it.

Get the picture?

Quite right ACE-T.
I have had my Tuscan 4 months and driven it every day.
It had 11000 on clock when bought, it now has 17000!!.
Other than minor niggles (and a flat battery - my fault!! oops) it has been fantastic.

Life in a gold fish bowl, this is a social car - you will never talk to so many strangers in your life.

It is an unbelievable car that can be forgivven the niggles and where else can you get supercar looks and performace for even twice the price.

It is the best car I have ever bought.

TYPICAL: A post about TVR reliabilty ( THE GOOD ) and we get a massive 6 thread reply. Sounds about right, all doom and gloom. Anyway had my speed 6 since may the only thing its required is a drop of oil and a tanker of petrol and a squirt of WD40 on the door switch. What do i think FANTASTIC, RELIABLE, AWESOME.

I have had mine three months now and have to say after previously owning and Esprit and a 911 that the Tuscan is the Daddy.

So far had a couple of minor problems like squeaky brakes which drive me mad but i have to say if i had spent £100K on this car i would still love it.

Power, Sound, Looks, Design, convertible, Hardtop, Interior, colour, wheels, Etc, Etc. Beautiful!!!

Mine has been fantastic!

Over 4000 miles in 3 1/2 months, and I still just love staring at it, still not quite able to accept that it is mine!

I would actually be quite happy to just sit and look at it all the time, except for the fact that driving it is even better!

What more can I say - it's just bloody fantastic!

Tuscans are great!!!

I bought my Tuscan in March this year and have enjoyed it very, very much! Yes, it had minor niggles from brand new but these were as minor as the gear knob wasn't aligned properly so no real complaints!

I have covered nearly 6,000 miles so far and only had a slight problem with the alternator rod. Apart from this the car has been mechanically sound and great fun! The dealer has been very good and always dealt with me in a very good manner. If you get yourself a good dealer then there should be no head-aches!

The Tuscan is such a great car that I would recommend it to anyone! It is by far the best car I have ever owned and don't regret buying it for a second!

I am glad I have my Tuscan and hope to own it for a long time yet to come!

Yep.

Had mine just coming up for a year in October.
Bloody fantastic!!!

Every time I drive it I always try to plan a longer route home, and get out thinking Wow!

I too am amazed that a small company can build such a beast.

If the engine exploded tomorrow it would still be worth the £50k just for the stunning work of art that it is.

Such an exclusive fantastic beast. Love watching the girlfriends of the 100's of Boxster owners, that I see every day, staring at the Tuscan as we pass.

(Sorry in advance, but one even tried to race me at the lights a few weeks ago. He won't try it again. Sorry again for that, I'm very childish).

Not childish at all. Boxter owners need to undertand
the pecking order.

They wont come near me anymore. There penis extention shrinks. Good to watch when they've got a woman with em. They look rather

I can endorse this wholeheartedly, being ehasler's other half, I love the Tuscan.

Only yesterday, I commented that it felt like being on a rollercoaster.

It is such a menacing, meaty looking beast (I'm talking about the car now... ) that it truly assaults your senses. Ed used to have a griff and I have to say that I loved the look of it and the burble of the V8, but NOTHING comes close to blowing your knickers off like this car!!!!

I think my Tuscan is the best car I've ever owned - if not one of the best cars ever. For me it's the coming together of such a number of different parts that makes it the ideal car for me - power, noise, handling, removable roof, safety, practicality, looks, image, other TVR owners.....well I could go on.

I've owned mine 26 months and 17150 miles from new. I drove loads of cars before I bought it as I was lucky enough to have the pick of practically anything out there - and it just had to be the Tuscan. Absolutely no regrets whatsoever, I drive it every day - I've even managed to drive it home in white-out snow conditions! Blooming quick on the track as well!

I sometimes (because I'm mad about cars - but you knew that as we're on the gassing station!) think what I could change it for and nothing, but nothing comes onto the list - any other car would be lesser in one or more of those parts.

I've just spent the weekend with a big grin attached to my face as I've driven the car around, roof off, shades on, dance music gently bumping away in the backgound . Life doesn't get better than this!

Cheers,

Andy.
