I will be a Tuscan owner in 5...4...3...2...

I'm off to pick up my Tuscan, and officially join your ranks!
I'm p/xing my Chimaera 500 which has given me 2 trouble-free years of motoring for a 2001 'Y' (rebuild November), 25k miles. (Found myself in the odd position of looking for a car with quite a few miles on the clock which suggests less time in the garage with probs, and more time out being enjoyed).
I haven't been this excited since...well...ever.

I'm considering this avenue - are you getting good p/x?!!!

I got one valuation of my '97 Chim 500, black w/ mulberry hide, 42k for £10k from one dealer in Surrey. I didn't know whether to laugh, or lean over the desk and punch the dealer in the face.
I drove down to another dealer in Sussex, who gave me £16.5, which I felt was more than fair. (About a k more than I put it up privately for, in fact.)

Congrats. You'll love it I'm sure.
And indeed I was. Right up until I was 2/3rds of the way home and this insistent knocking sound came from under the hood - which I guess was the manifold gasket going - and billowing smoke poured out of the vents and exhaust.
I know Tuscan's can be temperamental beasts - but 30 mins after picking up from a dealer? And on the back of a 12k service?
On the up side though, I did get positive remarks from about 6 complete strangers. I forgot how good that feels. In fact, even when I was stranded and waiting for the RAC, some old boy said he'd keep me company til they got there, and just talked TVR at me for the entire wait.

From the back of a recovery truck not very likely
Shell forecourts may be a better bet!
One of the cam followers had completely snapped in two... (!!) so it looks like it's going back to Blackpool, and I get another 3 weeks in the Chimaera 500.
I've been absolutely busting trying to keep this from the missus; wanting to go for maximum effect by pulling up out of the blue to pick her up from work in a new black Tuscan. It'll be a serious testament to my willpower if I can keep shtum for 3 more weeks...

If I can see why problems occured, exactly why should I be running off in the other direction?
This happened because when the engine was rebuilt, no shem was put in. No big mystery - not something which happens to Tuscans 'all the time'. In fact, this is the first time I have ever seen or heard of this problem, and I've had TVRs for 5 years.
The fact of the matter is, I've been through my fair share of cars, and my last TVR is right up there with my trusty Golf in terms of shenanigan infrequency. If you don't like TVRs, marki, the simple solution is this: don't drive them.
