does any one know if the 5lt V8 in the griff was more reliable than the speed 6. If it is then would it be possible to put one in a tuscan.

Can I hear that squelchy noise of a can of worms being opened?

it wont fit. the S6 fits because its put at an angle (dont like the thinking behind that myself) and therefore the tallest part hides in the centre lump.

Do you know if the S6 is angled in the Cerbera too?

That's what british leyland said about the MGB and the TR7. But costello managed it.
sooner or later some one will do it

Having an inline 6 canted over to reduce engine height is common place. It also helps to keep the hot exhaust seperated from the intake, which is a good thing. There is no reason to think that a canted engine is going to be any different than the same engine standing upright.

I would imagine that a drysumped V8 would come close to fitting, as you would be able to set it that much lower in the chassis. The center bulge may even leave room for a supercharger

Although I just looked at the TVR website and it seems the speed6 is drysumped, so there isn't going to be much of a reduction in height for the V8, may make it quite difficult to fit one in. Ho Hum, was a good thought though.

I didn't think the MGB ever had a slant 4, not sure about the MGC Straight 6 though.

The TR7 did have a slant 4 as did the Dolomite.
A derivitive of the Saab unit I think.

I would rather put a AJP8 lump in. There seem few problems with that engine now the initial gremlins have been forced out. 450bhp tuscan anyone ?

All though we have heard much of the engine problems of the straight 6, does anyone know how this sits with the more powerful 4ltr vs the new 3.6ltr. Most of the probs seem to be with the 3.6ltr variety.
Any thoughts?

I think the reference here was to the Rover V8 being installed in the MGB and TR 7 (8)

Why the Rover V8? If you are going to be a bear, be a grizzly! A Corvette LS1 engine with might just fit, now that would be something.

Well thats probably because because most tossers thrash their Speed Sixes from cold, don't check the oil or water or change down from 5th gear when doing 20mph.

My car was perfectly reliable from brand new. I did 5500 miles and only had a split hose to show for my troubles.

It was the least troublesome car I've owned from new. I've had a Mercedes CLK Convertible and a VW Golf 1.6. German engineering? Nah...

I am sorry for those that have genuine problems and don't fit into my descrption above but is it a coincidence that so many engines die?

Other way around, Triumph and Saab slant 4 were basically 1/2 a stag V8.

Funny that the Saab (even the turbo) is considered bomb proof and the stag is considered unreliable! All down to development and build.
Always wished you could mirror the Dolomite Sprint head for the other half of the Stag, that would have been fun!

Can't wait to see the responses from all those owners who treated their Tuscans with 'kid gloves' only for them to blow up anyway.

I can only assume you're trying to start a flame war or you're completely oblivious to the situation a couple of years back

i have put a tuscan bonnet[ or most of it] on my griff. There turned out to be alot more clearance over the plenum chamber so height clearance would almost certainly not be a problem. There may be some problems with the chassis but if you are interested i will measure up !

Funny you should say that because I think somebody is doing just that. The vette as you must know has a flat big wing sump or can be dry sumped.
