Ok, I know, we've all read similar stories before, but I still thought I had to pass this on. Im a 43 year old Tuscan owner, who lives deep into Kent, held a full UK licence and had no accidents or convictions for about 300 years. Driven TVR's for the past 8 years, and sports cars before that for a further 7. Just got my renewal through from Sunninghill, and I was fully expecting an increase, but this has to be close on a record, last year I paid £506, this year, they want £1,227, an increase of +142%, and no, they wern't having a laugh !!

Its all true. Mine has gone from £650 to £1850 ! I'm 35, 6 years NCB, no accidents or claims ever. 3 points back in 1999 that are now off my licence (but insurers still take them into account for 5 years after the event!), live in village in West Yorkshire where nothing ever happens, 5 years experience of driving TVRs. So what do we make of this........?

Sunninghill don't want our business as Royal Sun Alliance have been hit hard with claims. Time to shop around - and possibly go for a policy that excludes track days (pay-as-you-go for these instead if you want that kind of cover).

myself and hubby are with privelege insurance, came out 50.00 cheaper than tescos - still £1049 but that includes protected no claim, guaranteed hire care and legal aid, plus we have 3 points each. car is used everyday, and i am 36 full ncb - hubby is 39 - went on line to get quote..

sunninghill quoted £1700 - couldn't beleive it, - but then mad rob got a really good quote from them, so must be something going on...

I’m with Privilege too. 28yrs old, 4 yrs NCB, 3pts for speeding, one claim in 2001, car on driveway at night. I got my renewal quote yesterday: £1048 - Extortionate, but reasonable compared with what some of you guys are being quoted.

Why dont u tuscanites learn to drive properly. TVR's
are serious weapons and not for novices.

mmm I heard about this 2 months ago and as I had just transferred over to them from Mannings as they were cheaper, I called them to check on this. They said that premiums are not going up for those with no claims/convictions....so what is going on then?

I reckon Royal and Sun Alliance basically no longer want the business hence crazy money. They went nuts about my fitting Nitron suspension when most other insurers won't even load the premium for such a mod. Trouble is if you do track days quite a bit, as I do, it works out cheaper than paying £300 a go to insure the car for track day use at the time. I'm not aware of any other policy offering such no holds barred track cover these days.

I feel sorry for Sunninghill to some extent as this policy is worth a lot of money to them and at this rate folk are going to be deserting in droves.

The guy I spoke to a Sunninghill actually said that Royal & Sun Alliance don't want Tuscan business anymore as it is to much of a risk, very customer focussed I must say !.

I had a similar experience with Sunninghill when the renewal for my Cerbera recently came up. Went from about £700 to £1100 and something.

The main reasons cited for the increase were:-

1. the annual mileage I do (about 9k a year), and
2. it's my only car.

It seems the RSA are no longer interested in insuring this line of business, due to the losses they have experienced over the last year. (After all insurance premiums are primarily based on past experience/losses).

I personally don't think £1k is a huge amount of money to pay for insuring a £30k, 200mph sports car - even a minor incident is going cost at least that to fix. In the end I placed the business elsewhere for just over £800.

I think we have been fortunate over the past few years and have benefited from cheap insurance, the cost is now going up to a more realistic level. (Only my opinion).

However, I have read about some outrageously high quotes. (On the Tuscan Yahoo group there's been a couple of quotes for £4k and £7k).

Neil.

Steve Heath posted about this a while back basically they lost money last year on Tvr insurance and unfortunately tuscans were the "culprits"

Hence they want to get there money back.

How they are going to do it by such tactics beats me as surely people will change insurance company

I spoke to sunhill last month about the rise in premiums. To be told they were getting on average one claim a week for tuscans alone. If we keep driving like this we only have our selves to blame for premium hikes, what are you people doing? It is just adding fuel to the fire if we carry on like this the tuscan will become more exclusive than a ferrari just on insurance costs alone.IMHO.

Well it ain,t me!!, I am currently paying 625-00 with Direct Line (obviously that is going to change),been driving 34years, no claims, one speeding offence, no prangs. Not really a boring OLD bastard, just careful and attentive. On a rant!! one of my 20yr old (deceased) customers at my previous pub set off to work and leant across to pick up his fags from the passenger side foot well(police claim), veered aross the road, head on with a cement lorry. We really do have a lot of power under the right foot, insurance aside, it ain,t us that suffer but our relatives and friends. Rant over!!

I'm 56. Clean liscense. Tuscan S. Fully comp Direct Line with a £500 excess £560. I got a discount as I insure house contents, pets, buildings, three rental properties, travel insurance etc. I find them to be most efficient in dealing with any challenges that I or the family have had. I am in no way connected with Direct Line or the insurance industry.

I've just turned 25, clean license, Stevenage area, 3 years no claims, limited mileage on a new Tuscan S and mine is £1350ish - not bad I thought!

Would be alot less if I had got an older Tuscan though.
I'm with Manning, who were recommended to me by someone on here.

I have just renewed my insurance on the Cerb (4.5) 49years old clean licence £543 (excess £350) and no increases for modifications or restrictions on mileage.:0

I tried all the insurance companys that are supposed to be TVR friendly (Sprint Mag)they all were a waste of time. All were more expensive and all wanted a £500 excess.

My Insurance company: Liverpool and Victoria

Sunninghill are having a laugh. Well certainly made me smile.

Over the last week I have been assembling quotes waiting for the renewal notice from Sunninghill. I have nothing to compare with except about 360 for the Chim and an additional 60 for the past 3 monhs for the Tusc. I would have expected 60x4+360 so about 700 ish right. Wrong - big time - A whopping 2093 with 500 excess!

Alternative quotes
Tesco 669 with 400 excess
Privilege 673 with 400 excess

Mannings & A one to try on Monday !

Edit 18/08/03 - Nobody can touch Tesco & Privilege - Now which one to go for ?

Sunninghill wouldn't even quote me on my t350c as i had more than one speeding on my license! Mannings £749 (with tvr cc & tvr eng track days), NU Direct £909. Age 36 protected ncb! I used A1 but found them very expensive, at the time they used Norwich Union and were about £300 dearer!
