Is it only me or does anyone else think that the ventilation system is inadequate. I just can't get the aircon to keep the car cool at this time of year and what with the handbrake and gear knob getting so hot it just gets sweltering in there!

I also can get decent throughput of air to either driver or passenger and the vents on the steering column are next to useless (on my car at least).

Join the club, I get out of the car looking like I've just come out of a sauna, not very appealing to the ladies you try to impress when you get out of the car..
i am getting my dealer to investigate my aircon at the momemnt, surely something must be able to be done..
And don't say take the roof off!!

One thing I found with my car is that if you get warm air out the 4 dash top vents when the aircon is switched on, simply turn the temp dial to warm for a few seconds, then back to fully cold.

For some reason, this resets something, and you get nice cold air again!

I find I actually get quite cold sometimes in the car with the aircon on full blast!

I had problems in Spain when very hot temperatures made air con essential. Also water would "leak" into passenger well. Aircon temp has been fixed by factory. However, they tell me that water may still drip into pasenger well which is caused by condensation. Factory is working on a new valve to resolve this problem and have told me they will let me know when they have a fix.

The heater control in my Tuscan doesn't necessarily give cold air when set to cold. There is a problem with the servo mechanism that I'm waiting for a fix from my dealer for.

Basically, if you don't get a good blast of air from the steering column vents when the fan is on then the heater isn't set to cold. Try adjusting the heat control one LED at a time until you get equal blast from the steering column vents and the screen vents. This setting will provide a good flow of cold air. Next time you start up, it could be a different position for the control.

Fun isn't it?

Mine was barely cool yesterday, however engine temps oil and water in the 90's so don't know what to expect really. (Ed is yours really that cold?)
Took me a while to realise however that having the windows down was a big no no.. as the airflow over the bonnett from the rads pumps VERY hot air around the screen and into the cabin via the open windows dooh!!(roof on or off).
Still got the Volvo today and that pumps out an artic blizzard so much so that I have to put my matching volvo tanktop on!!!! Wish the tusc was the same.

Mine has A/C (apparently) but its always been rubbish to the point i don't even bother turning it on, what are the views on getting it re-gassed?

Or is it just a really poor set up?

I've had mine regassed but this didn't make much difference.

It is in Racing Green at the moment for the 1000 mile service after the rebuild and they are looking at it.

I have been driving my babe on the Coast in constant 35plus temps peaking at 40's. The A/C is pants and ususally I don't even bother to switch it on. I have roof off and rear screen out which helps and I also find that if you raise the windows to just above the mirror height this deflects a lot of the heat from the engine.

I have the same problem. Bought my Tuscan from the Dutch importer (Nimag) about 3 weeks ago and to pay more than 4.000 euro for the aircon. I need the aircon when it is hot and now it is hot and it remains hot in the car.

I will tell the importer, that there 2 options:
1. Make the aircon properly working
2. Give my money back

Perhaps we all have to put it that way?
Please react!

I thought the air con wasn't bad - but then I am used to an Exige.

The gear knob does burn though

Dealer said to me that there was a mod done on later Tuscs which put more air to the pod vents. If I could get the same flow of air from these as I do the demist vents then it wouldn't be so bad.

I'm having the aircon recharged today too.

Yes the gearknob does get hot. I was told that there was another mod for this but the bottom line is that the materials used are very good conductors of heat so you need some kind of membrane or something to stop the heat transfer?

It certainly made a big difference last weekend, when the car had been parked in the sun at Rockingham all day (black car, hot sunshine, roof on = very hot interior). I kept the roof on, turned the air-con up to max and after a few minutes with the windows open to get rid of the hot air inside the cockpit, it was very pleasant.

By the end of the 1 1/2 hour journey, the handbrake lever and metal trim on the dash and doors were actually cold to the touch, and my bottle of water was tepid rather than very hot when I got in the car.

It may not be as good as aircon in other cars, but it certainly makes a big difference, especially when I compare it to my Griffith which didn't have aircon, and on hot days that could get very uncomfortable.

Could be a new use for a condom!! The ribbed variety would even provide more grip

New member here.Just sold a 1998 4L Chimaera which i've had since new to pick up a new 4L tuscan on the 1st September.Regarding the air con that i have specked on mine,i have found out today from development that the japenese are not happy with the air flow so their cars are now being fitted with bigger fans and 3 more air vents on the dash.I have been told also to my disappiontment that in the very near future all UK specked cars will have the same system.I live in Blackpool and have been in the factory quite often recently so its easy to pick up tit bits of information.

Yes, we have these extra vents, and these are the most effective of all. I can get my car quite cool with the aircon on. With temperatures like this it is even cooler to drive with the roof on and windows closed...

Maybe TVR will change this on the RHD Tuscans in the near future too.
