0-100-0 test in auto car
Discussion
'The Nobel amazed with a post 10sec to 100mph the Tuscan blew it away with a scarcely believable 8.8 seconds to 100' from this weeks AutoCar bit of a fantastic headline !! The Tuscan S was only behind the Zonda C12S and one of the Caterhams (R400 i think) in terms of production times from 0-100-0 post a time in the low 12 seconds bloody good for a car with no ABS
But they failed to mention that the driver absolutely hated the Tuscan
Still, I think he hated it less after he drove it than before, he told me it had all the makings of a decent car, shame they couldnt get the quality right. But he is a Porsche fan, so just doesn't get it!
(I think the rattly dash scared him..the wimp)

Top Gear mag have a top 100 super cars type mag out at the mo under the british section the Tuscan S and Morgan Aero 8 are compared, the TVR gets full makrs something like 10 stars out of 10 overall !!!! It beats the Morgan hands down in all dept !! Looks like TVR might be getting some better press at last ...

Typo - it's even faster. Autocar managed to get it to 100 in 8.08 seconds!
How about the 0-60 time? Anyone notice that it was 3.68 seconds?! That isn't some marketing geek's wishful thinking of what might be possible if the weather, wind and driver are just right. That's what was actually measured in a real test. Can we assume this means that all the car mags (as well as TVR themselves) will be updating their literature on the Tuscan S to indicate a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds?
Stop me if I'm wrong but isn't that in the same league as major exotica like the Pagani Zonda... oh, wait, the TVR was faster to 60 and only half a second slower to 100 than an Italian-built millionaire's plaything whose VAT costs more than the price of a Tuscan S delivered to your door with all the options (and several grand change).
They can keep the Pope's shoes, if someone handed me the keys to a Tuscan and the keys to a Pagani and said "Pick one! (and, no, you're not allowed to sell it)", I'd be driving home in Blackpool's finest.
And maybe this test will stop people once and for all from whining about TVR's perfectly sensible decision to leave ABS off their cars. Any car that can stop dead from 100mph in 4.15 seconds doesn't need any "improving" done to its brakes - especially since so many cars with ABS couldn't match the TVR's braking time. ;->

Did anyone notice that used a rather unusual brand
of tyre for the Tuscan - I'd never heard of 'em...
Must have been responsible for most of the time improvement - wonder if we'll se them on the road cars soon... ?
Someone post the name of them up hear if they have the magazine to hand !

Well the writer of the articel called them "Trampio el trampio" I have no idea if he was trying to be funny or what but I've never heard of them and I assume neither have most Autocar readers. Rich...
edited to add that doing a bit of a search they seem to be a Toyo semi-slick track tyre tyre. http://mitawards.org/toyo_tyres.html

...if not more. But then the Caterham R500 was probably on ACB10's, who knows how warmed up they'd been? Personally I'm staggered the Tuscan out braked the Radical! I can only imagine the brakes were cold (when they're shit).
danny
or they weren't running enough air brake, er I mean wing
I'll also point out that the surface tested on was concrete so the track tyres may have gained back what it was losing with the poor surface...... I struggled like mad for traction as my road tyres just didn't want to grip on that surface.
And yes the R500 did have sticky track tyres on (I think A032R's but didn't check) but thats what the average R500 wears so hardly 'cheating'.
