Engine Re builds
Discussion
There was a census that the early 4.0l Tuscan 2000/01 models were the one’s that were falling over, but there are also Tuscan S's that are falling over.
There has been a new head design, which was meant to sort this problem out, and all new cars have this, which has been written on this site. Don’t know the truth of this though.
However, this is all speculation, as the only people that know the real reason is the factory, and they have not issued a statement nor do they explain what went wrong with your engine after a rebuild.
If a warranty company gets involved you might get their report as I know people on this site have been able to get hold of theirs; one I recall was a worn block on 15K and worn camshafts and finger followers.
Apart from that it needs a database set up where people can post the engine failure, but this site is a good indication, as over the past month I have read more about engine failures than I can recall. I would say that people are starting to use the cars and they are getting between 5000-10000k and the problems are being highlighted.
Saying that there was a thread with a good deal of people that have speed six engines with no rebuilds, but they were low mileage I think.
OR, what I have just written is a complete load of bo***cks. You pay’s ya money and takes ya chances….

Its very strange the number of engines that use oil and the ones that don't i.e some seem to use litres of the stuff and some use none at all. My Tuscan S did not use one drop of oil in the first 1400 miles.
Is this an indication of the poor overall QC in the tolerances? is it the engines that are using oil that are blowing up? high internal stresses will consume oil....so if your is using a lot of oil does that mean that your engine is internally overstressed?
Just a thought.

I've put in about 1.5litres (15/40W semi-synth) in the 500 miles since my (post rebuild) 1000 mile service. This does seem a tad high for fully rebuilt engine.
The engine still clatters like a good'un which I also find strange.
Off on a long drive to Devon tomorrow so I've packed 5 litres of oil just in case.
p.s. I was putting in 1 litre every 200 miles prior to rebuild.
