hi folks, after 5500 miles our lovely car has got a nasty rattle from the engine. just waiting to see if we can get the work carried out at tvr power due to back log and factory shutdown at blackpool making the lead time 8 weeks!!

thing is what the bloody hell do they do to the engine, just fix the bits that broke or check everything?? - any past experience to draw from. car is just still in tvr warranty, hope this will make a difference at the speed of fixing.

all experiences gratefully appreciated (engine rebuild wise obviously, not what you got up to last night!!

laters....

Welcome to your first rebuild... May this be the one and only...

Yep 8-week turnaround from TVR power then you have to run the engine in for 1000 miles and usually pay for the service, which includes the tappets adjustment with, will cost around £500.00

Worst thing is you cannot take the engine over 3000rpm for 1000 miles, which is 77mph.

Fingers crossed they have sorted the probs out with the new rebuilds but only time will tell... Some people thing the heads are made of cheese, they may not be too far off the truth

I thought they had fixed the engines last December when mine went in for it's first time...

For your information though, my "1000" mile service after the rebuild last year was FOC.

My post rebuild service was FOC also. I wouldn't have thought they can/would charge you if the car is still under warranty.

thanks guys, story gets freaky - definately nasty rattle, car towed off to dealer, much to the neighbours delight, dealer starts to look at it, then the rattle goes!! - doing all the checks, dropped oil out, compression is fine, we find out hopefully today if the car can come back home.

not sure if just to go ahead with engine out to be sure, but some one else said if it aint broke, don't try and fix it. has any one else experienced this - stuck valve was mentioned???

thanks

IMHO I would say that (you) are best to try and get the whole car to TVR Power, even if this means paying for the transporter, they would check everything and are very qualified to make judgements on some of the more quirky elements of the Speed Six

They are also very friendly and helpful when it comes to things like the invoice - can't endorse them enough really

My trasportation costs were only £170 I recall someone on here had to pay the labout charge for getting the engine out and replacing the engine from his dealer...

thanks for all your help - as it was still under the original tvr warranty, dom at tvr power told them to take out the engine and get to him asap.

hubby just confirmed that my hire car will be at the dealer tomorrow (tuscan is used daily - lucky me) and the engine should be back from dom next thursday, with pick up sat 9th august (fingers crossed). have to admit so far everyone has gone out of their way to put this right asap for me. Impressed, especially after the stories that you read on here!!

will keep you updated, god i miss that car!!

After owning my first Tuscan for only a month now, I got the dreaded engine noises, lack of power & major backfires on Sunday afternoon when out for a run round the local lanes!!! It's only done 3600 miles and was running like a dream for most of those!

Oh well, it's back at TVR Power today to see what's up, fingers crossed it's not going to be a major engine rebuild already as this is my day to day car!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the thoughts TVR Totty, Much appreciated!

The hardest part is missing the beast so much and last weekend was a nightmare, fantastic hot weather and a big empty spot in the garage where she should have been ready to go Typical after learning to drive her in all the wet and rain on my weekly visits to the office down in Horsham!

The guys at Team Proactive in Birmingham have been great but no news when the engine will be taken out by TVR Power and rebuilt as yet.... let's hope it's before their shutdown or I'm going to be well pi**** !!!

I'll keep you all posted...

baby is back, picked her up friday evening, god what a difference from the friggin nissan!!. just getting to know her all again, 70 miles an hour, christ that hurts, white van man is having a field day at the moment on my way to work... just biding my time!!!

but people word of warning, any low rev engine misfire, get your beasty back to the dealer, its not worth taking a chance with your cats or causing other damage.

and on a plus note, a big thank you with knobs on to the lovely dom at tvr power, and our dealer in henley.

we know things go wrong with these fine beasties, but this was a classic example of customer service alround.

couldn't have been more helpful especially on the invoice front and the "keeping us totally informed".

thanks dom and rich.

now off to get sweaty with her!!!!

WAHAYYYYYYYYYY! It's back!!! My God I've missed it!

A huge THANK YOU to TVR Power for doing an amazing job of getting the engine rebuilt before their shut down and to Team ProActive for putting it all back together and getting the beast on the road again! An excellent job well done and she now sounds so much better!

Well it's that 1000 mile run-in time, the sun's out so maybe I'll see some of you out there Look out Pete (S1 XOK) I'm heading your way...
