apologies if this is a rehash of an old topic, but on my way back from france this weekend, i experienced the very worriome and sudden phenomenon of being unable to slect a gear. after a bit of a panic, the gearbox eventually became operational again, but only after applying considerable force. any ideas as to the problem?

also, i was wondering if anyone might be able to remind me of how to reset the pod, mines become unreadable.

many thanks.

Not too sure on the gear selection prob. I have occasionally experienced a slight stiffening of selection usually when on a long run,or if I havent had to change gear for a long time as on m/way. Doesnt sound nearly as bad as yours. Did it return to normal? If not it is probably best to get it checked out in case it seizes. With regard to pod reset, without the manual in front of me,from memory I think you push the small brass button on left side,at same time as pushing the pod screen info adjuster knob. This, if I am right should let you re-set.

thanks ms topaz. i had the gear prob once before about three months ago, and it returned to normal. this time it doesnt seem to have, although ill check it out when i get back to england at the weekend.

the pod reset was more a total screen reset as opposed to a data reset, if you get my meaning. i cant read anything on it at all, its all black amorphous blobs.

Uh-oh - sounds ominous!

Re the gears - mine's a bugger to get into 1st when stopped and 3rd needs a "special technique" which I'm getting used to (not a problem).

To get into reverse, however, the 'box needs to be put into neutral, then release the clutch, then clutch in again and into 5th then straight back into reverse - it's the only way to avoid that horrid crunching noise!

Thats the same with all Borg Warner T5 gearboxes not just one fitted to Tuscans, it even tells you to do this in the handbook so there is nothing wrong there

You should have no problem selecting any of the forward gears hot or cold. I would suggest getting the clutch pedal mechanism checked or maybe the gear lever assembly.

All T5 gearboxes need 5th selected to avoid the graunch.

They all get warm, but you should still be able to hold your knob comfortably, if it gets too hot to touch (groan), then there is a problem with the heat sink..Best to speak to dealer.

Don't know about all the fancy clutch work I just stick it into either 3rd or 5th then slot it into reverse no problem. Rich...

Looked alround my Tuscan and couldn't find a sink let alone a hot one Seriously does this mean that there is a problem that should be looked at, apart from the unique branding of the gear positions on the palm of ones hand. Bit like the Renault Clio in the advert!!

Hmmmm. 1st is definately quite sticky when the car's not moving. Otherwise fine. 3rd seems OK now too, but reverse still needs a double declutch to get into reverse. BTW, the car was serviced (12000 miler) at Henley Heritage only 3 weeks ago and no fault was recorded or mentioned!!

As hads been said... so what happens if you just stuff it up into 5th then pull back into reverse. With the clutch down obviously ? Rich...
