There was an MG trackday at Castle Combe today, where we took our ZS180.
Not being one to resist the opportunity, I also took along the Tuscan. The nice people at Castle Combe took the opportunity to noise test the car, and it came out at a whopping 108dB. On a retest it came out at 106.
Is this normal? Suffice to say we didn't take it on track! Mufflers have been recommended to me before, can anyone recommend any good ones for the Tuscan?

Tower View do some inserts for the rear cans, www.t-v-r-services.co.uk
Not used them myself, but they claim it makes the car very quiet - sounds horrible but does the job was the quote!!
Could be worth a try?

There is something here that is wrong! The Tuscan, be it an 'S' or a standard 4.0 has an output in the region of 92 to 98 max, assuming that you have factory fit Cans, and it hasn't been de-catted!
Either their meter is uncalibrated or there is something different with your car because 108 is absurd!
Don't forget db's are a mathmatical formulation for understanding sound intensity - 3db is double 0db, 6db is double 3db and so on...
The difference between 96db and 108db is therefore vast!!

Yep – that’s definitely not standard. My chim 4.0 has had an exhaust conversion done, which has been measured at Bedford Autodrome (whilst Jonathan Palmer was watching..!!) at 108db at 4500 rpm .5 meter behind the car (static).
I remember when the Tuscan was launched and sat behind one at TMS (in mine) whilst it was being rev’d, it sounded like a sewing machine (I could hardly hear it, it just seemed to be fizzing…!). 108 db is not a standard car. Although I have heard that that Combe has some very tight sound limit’s (I wouldn’t be surprised if they had an over enthusiastic sound meter…!)
For reference, a mate of mine used to work as an engineer on the touring cars, a good few years back (about 6 yrs ago), and they all had to come in at a limit of 106db at 6,500 rpm.
Be happy (at least you don’t have to pay out for a sports exhaust, result…..!)

Yeah 108db would almost be 'blood from every orifice' territory!
Yep - glad I don't have to sit behind it at traffic lights .
