Went out yesterday for a nice drive or so I thought at the time. Sun came out so I pulled in to take the roof off and the driver side roof pin won't slide back enough for the roof to come off! This is the first time this has happened as the roof has been off plenty of times. Should I spray some WD40 in there or has the cable been stretchedand needs retightening - any ideas.

To make matters even worse, set off again in a bad mood and was pondering the roof when the the car in front straddled a rock in the road that must have been knocked off the dry stone wall at the side of the road. Unfortunately had no time for drastic action so tried to straddle it as well. BIG BANG lots of pinball type noise before it was spat out of the back of the car - B*ll*cks!

Haven't had it up on a ramp yet but does anyone know if there is anything fragile beneath apart from the exhaust pipes and collectors. (i.e. brake/fuel lines).

Shouldn't have got out of bed yesterday!

Bad day, eh ?

I had this problem with one of my roof pins. Does you cable retract a bit, or not at all ? There's a mechanism in the boot at the end of the handle that connects the cable - it can be adjusted if you know what you are feeling for to compensate if the cable has stretched.

As for the underneath of the car - you maybe OK from what I can remember of what it looks like. Safest to get it checked out - the dealer should also be able to fix your roof cable in about 10 minutes.

Cheers,

Andy.

Cheers Andy - was a bad day yeah!

Will check out the cable in the back when I get chance - cable may have stretched as the pin retracts but just not fully.

As for underneath the car - no fluid leaks or such so I guess I didn't do much damage. Helluva racket though :-)

Check that the socket on the roof itself has not altered it's angle of dangle.

Give me a clue! What should I feel for? My roof pins have started rattling badly - I think only the offside. Took roof panel out to check and it was a bit of a struggle as the offside pin does not now retract far enough. Checked all fixings were tight - they were and then tried to put roof panel back - very difficult - had to push pin back with screwdriver to get panel back in. It must be the cable that needs adjusting - but how?

I've no idea how to adjust the cable myself. I've seen it done, and it involved a lot of groping and swearing!

Sorry!

Andy.

My cable fell off the lever resulting in less than satisfactory retraction. I now have a temporary clip fashioned by Martin at Racing Green which works very well - not a standard spare. Symptoms were that the lever was very floppy, fixing it did take about 10 minutes and some muttered cursing from Martin as he groped for the cable.

Gutted! But these colours are some of the easiest to repair.
