My car has been parked up for two days with the sun on the front. Got in it to drive last night, only to notice long crack running from top of screen on the passenger side. It wasnt there two days earlier The screen on KevNorth's Chim went last week in a car park. When we went to the dealer there was a Tuscan having screen replaced, and the guy from Autoglass said he also had a Tamorra to do. Now I dont know about you, but as this is the 2nd screen in a week for me, and with all these others appearing, is there a fundamental flaw? and could the bodywork be flexing in the high temps we have been experiencing?
When my dealer checked the screen he confirmed NO impact damage.
I suppose the moral of this tail is check your screens and try not to park in direct sunlight. I cant think of anything else which could have caused this, and am very suspicious that this may have been the reason behind my 1st crack last week. Oh well back to dealer.

I collected my 02 reg E class from the Mercedes dealer yesterday evening after its first service only to find an 18" crack in the windscreen on the passenger side.

There was an existing slight chip on the screen where the crack appeared but absolutely no crack at all.

Dealer said it must have been about to go anyway and may have happened when the car was jacked up. Maybe - but they didn't notice it and after a £450 bill I'm left with a car that needs yet more work and more time off the road (its a bonded screen so can't be fixed road side). If they'd spotted it I could have arranged something yesterday, I'd told the dealer that I was using the car to drive to Cornwall Saturday morning and I now have to do that with an extremely dodgy front screen.

So its not just TVR's....

Broken again just a week after replacement? I'd be suspicious about how well it was fitted or if it was stressed in transit or while fitting.

I am very doubtful that it could be caused by heat stress.

Got to agree with donaldhunter, these things normally need a stress-raiser like a surface breaking stone chip to start a crack. Once started it will propagate and that's the part caused by the thermal stress. Maybe a scratch on the edge that you can't see or lying aginst something sharp inside the surrounding seal?

Sorry to hear the bad luck again.

sorry to hear this news Lord & lady T is this just coincidence, it could be a stress thing caused prior to fitting, maybe Kevins has got to do with agriculture, and of course yours could be a wise crack

I only have the 'Return of the crack' when I bend down to pick something up!!!!

it's the way I tell 'em

Nice to see you and martyn havent lost your wit and charm. Daresay Nick will have something to say also! I must say that my dealer inspected my crack phnarr phnarr, before you guys add any comments, and def said absolutely no impact damage and nothing where screen fitted in to cause crack. Remember I'd done nearly 1000mls of carefree motoring without hassle so until proven otherwise I'm sticking to my theory. Interesting to see if anyone else suffers!

I doubt if it could be the body flexing as they are bonded to the chassis and have a roll over hoop round the front screen & rear window.Possibly the screen had a chip on the edge prior to it being installed which was covered up by the seal, then with the heat it just propergated down the screen.

why suddenly does my drivers door sit proud and the same side boot and roof not fit properly? The screen crack was on the other side comnig from under the rubber travelling downwards, right on the part that 'bends' from the front to the side. p.s. I'm not a porker, either.

As you say this does not explain why the door & boot have moved although have seen a few Tuscans with the R/H side of the boot & door out of adjustment, my drivers door is always going out of adjustment although it does not sit proud and can only tell as it does not pop open anymore.

I would take it back to your dealer & see if they have any explanation.

Latest update is that the Tusc may have to go home to Bpool as flexing is suspected. Great, right in the middle of a heat wave. I will keep you all advised of diagnosis. Doesn't help me though being Tivless for poss a good few weeks.

Stewards are still out on this one, but I've now heard of another Tusc garaged overnight and the owner came down to find a 12inch crack in screen which wasn't there when he left the car. Well Watson the mystery deepens. It appears the windscreen pixie has struck again.
