On my way back from the Hants meeting this evening, came out of a roundabout in second, up to sixty/seventy, changed up to third, floored it, accelerator stuck!! (underpants were clean). Arse of the car snaked while I braked VERY HARD, Red light appeared, thrown into neutral. Shit!!, what was that all about!. My first thought, that the Overmat creeped forward and jammed the pedal, having then returned home and assessed the overmat situation, can,t see how that could have happened. Any thoughts guys???

Could be the throttle cable has frayed at the peddle end.I also have carpets & overmats and quiet some time ago the dealer cut down the carpet behind the alloy cover to allow the overmat to lie flat, as one of their customers had a bit of an incident with overmat jamming the throttle pedal & he was not so lucky.I have also added a strip of velcro to the front of the overmat to keep it fixed to the carpet as it kept moving it around.

I vote throttle cable sticking, as in it's about to snap. I carry a spare one in the boot now. Later (when I don't know) cars have a new bracket design which is supposed to stop the problem. Well done for keeping control!

Cheers,

Andy.

read Simons post - Tuscan site 8jul 'hand job all the way' coz his throttle cable went and apparantly common for early Tusc's.

sounds like a bit of a moment Geoff? did you make it to Goodwood? From my (limited)experience trying to adjust the pedal box i can,nt see the mat getting in the way of the pedals as Andy has said it might be worth getting a new throttle cable?
Only just picked up this thread just spent another 21/2 hours with the guy on my chim it drove superb after re-booting ECU but the car is still for sale will tell you the full SP next time i see you Tony

Made Goodwood, but easy on the throttle. Seriously considering going again tomorrow. Car booked in at Racing Green on Monday for new starter motor will ask them to check out the throttle cable. Unlucky with the chim Tony, you seemed so confident of a sale.

when we took the throttle cable apart to try and make some kind of jury rig, it was corroded inside (white powder). Now, the throttle cable is sooooooo free it's crazy. Breath on the right pedal and your doing 3k revs - is it that the inner cable reacts with the outer and causes it to stick (or stick on!) and this in part causes the resistance that makes the cable snap!

The orignal problem with the throttle cables snapping was due to them being incorrectly set up and bending the inner cable at 90 deg when the peddle is lifted, this in time causes the strand's to snap the cable to stick then break.Just another item for the weekly checklist

Same thing happened to me Geoff (story is on my profile) apparently bits of gravel, small stones can get into pedal box and cause it to stick. Mine sticking at full throttle meant a rebuild because I wasn't in a position to just knock off the ignition,(dual carriageway flyover) bloody scary though.

Those great guys at Racing Green have sorted it, not the accelerator cable, although the mod was not carried out earlier( contrary to what I was told) by another dealer, so needs to go back at a later date. Seems the Overmats grabbed the pedal. Fix has been sorted by removing the TVR overmats and the original mats velcroed. Thanks guys!
