Hi all -

what is the 'correct' idle speed and oil pressure (at idle) for a Tuscan speed 6 (4.0L 2001) ??

Mine's idling at 700rpm (actually wobbles between 7 and 800) but when the engine is *very* hot - I get fluctuating oil pressure averaging about 14psi-17psi. Pick up the revs just a tad and it shoots up - peaks around 50psi.

Normal ??The car only has 12k miles

Still worried about the lunpy idle too -

My car idles smoothly at about 800, when hot the oil pressure can drop as low as 10psi, at a steady speed (i.e. motorway) I get mid to high 40's psi

Best not to answer that for fear of tempting fate!

Todays oil pressure was, 18psi @ 800rpm, running temp. Yesterday it was, 0 psi @ 800rpm, running temp.
What will be on the menu tommorrow?....who knows, maybe deep fried cod(e) L, dipped in code C

er, I would get your oil pressure sensor etc checked if you are getting readings like that. Probably ok, if it has dropped to 0, then back again most likely a dodgy sensor.

Good luck

Whitey......either the sensor, or a loose wire. I'll have a look at the weekend, while I continue my search for the loose heatshield rattle

Describe your heatshield rattle in more detail ?? I had a mystery rattle squeak noise at idle/start up, turned out it was a broken engine mount ! The N/S mount goes as heat from the exhaust perishs the rubber then the metal breaks. Lucky I'm so fussy and went straight to the dealer when this new noise appeared ! Also I had the oil cooler rubbing against the chassis.

Cheers

I think it's some kind of metal plate, like a shield? If the idle goes under 700 (when cold) or when the revs are dropping to 3000, when changing gear......thats when I hear it. I had the bonnet off last week and couldn't see anything, so maybe it's near the bellhousing/gearbox area .The sound comes from the bulkhead area....and as per usual, has gone away now

I had a look around underneath mine when on the ramps a couple of weeks ago & am sure I seen the heat shield near the bell housing, It's impossible to see unless on ramps or over an inspection pit.

I know this was retrofitted to the car early on & is possibly to prevent the heat damage to the engine mount.
