Just had a call from Andy at Sunninghill Ins to tell me that as from
1st June Tuscans are now high risk due to several write offs.

My premium has gone from £1,000 to £1,832 with only 3 track days
allowed pa . Excess on the track days is now £5,000. Then they will
charge £?? . The Tus is currently insured with Royal Sun who want
over £3,000 and NO track days!!! The renewal quote is with Norwich Union.

Whilst Andy is still trying to source a more palatable premium for
the 30th June renewal, feedback from anyone insured with another
brocker/ insurer would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I had my renewal from the TVRCC approved scheme - it went from £1250 to £2350. Strangely I did not persue the renewal with them! Found the cheapest was with Directline online (cheaper than expiring premium by over £100) but that does not include any track days. I guess with the saving I could buy one off track day insurance if required.

Hope this helps.

I've just bought a 2001 Tuscan S (get it next Wednesday) so have been shopping around. Don't laugh but try Tesco. The have underwritten the S the same as the Tuscan and it is costing me £1100, ok no track cover at all, but it is still £600 cheaper than anyone else quoted!

Privilege will be the same price as Direct Line as they are both the same company.

Privilege and Direct Line were NOT the same price when I called them. If you purchase online with DL you get a further 5% discount.

Thanks all for your feedback.
Seems that I can keep my premium the same ish by going with Tesco or Direct Line, but without track day cover. But I need track day cover....!!!!!
Buying it independantly costs a small fortune. I believe that the Insurance companies are now reluctant to cover these days due to a few major "offs" with expensive cars.....bugger...!!!!!

Have you tried Classic TVR....sounds daft I know, but they did a good price for me.

Here's the number: 01455 891 330

and here's a thread where some folks put down their comparisons and quotes, if its any use.

They should be as they both use exactly the same quote engine.

Strange but true, but I found Privilege were significantly cheaper than Direct Line....

Wow, there was me thinking that being 24 and never having owned a TVR before, my insurance premium would be one of the worst. But its not going to be by the looks of it (but I do have to wait to be 25).
Mannings were the best for me and I will be going with them shortly.

Just had my Renewal through from Tesco on my 2001 Tuscan 4.0l as £768.00 for the year on restricted mileage of less than 8000 miles per annum and with protected NCD.
I have just made a claim after a colleague reversed into the car whilst parked ...
Tesco were brilliant and I had the car repaired at Gorners(an approved repairer)within a week of the incident with no excess to pay as I was none-blameworthy, they dealt with everything.
Excellent service by both Tesco and Gorners.

Gimlet - that sounds like a good premium - what are your vital statistics for insurance: age, NCB, garaged, convictions etc?

I got a quote from Tesco today of £950 fully comp, >5 years NCB on a 2000 4.0 Tuscan (I valued conservatively at £28K), 3 points for Sp30 back in 1999, me to drive, <3000 miles p.a. My previous insurance with Sunninghill was £690, now they are quoting £1850!

Just got my insurance renewal form through and it's cheaper (Privilege) !!!

But the feckers have excluded track day use.

Does any one know of any company that includes track days in the cover still (and I don't mean TVRCC only sponsored events) or do I have to get specific cover for each event ?

I've had a look at Norwich Union for example and it's not clear one way or the other. These boys seem to have got it covered :

www.tvr-insurance.co.uk/

which is underwritten by NU.

Any others ?

Cheers,

Andy.

Right here we go :

Privilege - cheapest, no track cover, no way
Norwich Union - no track cover, no way
Hill-House Hammond - no track cover, no way
A-one - expensive - 5 track days allowed @ £98 each
Sunninghill - most expensive - but any number of track days
Mannings - cheap, TVRCC track days included
ClassicLine - limit to 7500 miles per annum so no good for me
Peart - 2nd cheapest and TVRCC track days included

Competition Car Insurance looking at about £266 for £30 000 with £3000 excess

So all I need to do is work out how many track days I'm going to do in the next 12 months and with whom, and I should be able to work out what's the cheapest route!

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Andy.

Are you sure about Tesco not covering trackdays on the TVR?

Reason I ask is that I've been covered with them for the last 3 years (ish), and have done numerous track days covered by them in our cars. All we had to do is ring them up and ask them to extend the cover. The most this has ever cost me is about 10 quid!...

I'm looking to buy a TVR, and was hoping I'd just be able to swap the insurance over (they have given a very very good quote!!!)

Just phoned Tesco - they said no way track days are covered.

Editted to say their online quote was the cheapest so far.
