Yokohamas on a Tuscan?

Has anybody ever tried tyres other than Bridgestone or Toyo on a Tuscan? And can anybody give me a reason why you shouldn’t?

The reason I ask is because I can get tyres through a contact at Yokohama a lot cheaper than I can find the equivalent Toyos. Apparently Yokohamas have been fitted to Griffiths but I can’t find any reference to anybody fitting them to a Tuscan.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get Yokohamas cheap then give them a try. They have a pretty good reputation, especially on Lotus Elises.

They are good but the compound is very soft especially on the AV Sport range.

They don't last long I can tell you!

Have you tried them on your Tuscan or was it another car?

My dealer couldn’t really give me any advice. I've been trying to speak to somebody at the factory but haven't been able to get hold of anybody knowledgeable yet to get their view on it.

No they weren't on the Tuscan but a 1.6 Golf! I had dealer fitted wheels and they gave me the most expensive bloody rubber they could find!

AVS Sport I believe they were. The fronts lasted 10,000 miles but the rears were fine. Considering it's a 105hp car and I didn't rag it left right and centre I wouldn't recommend them unless they were *very* cheap!

For anybody who may be interested, I spoke to the factory this afternoon. They said there was no reason not to try Yokohamas. Apparently they really liked Bridgestone SO2’s, but when they became a bit difficult to source they tried SO3’s. They said they found the sidewalls on SO3’s are too hard so changed to Toyos because they’re softer. I was also told they had tried Michelins and had found them to be very good but there is some sort of supply problem.

I think I’m going to give Yokohamas a try. Even if they do wear out quick it won’t be too bad due to the price I’m getting them for.

I can echo Tuscan s on this...

I had them on a Rover 220 coupe and shredded them in double quick time. Sticky as you like but they only lasted half the time of the Bridgestones SO 2's that replaced them. (about 6k miles). Would hate to see how long they'd last on an enthusiatically driven Tuscan!

Think mine were AVS sports as well...
