erratic road speed signal input mean...

The Tuscan is idling a little low when cold, around 500 rpm, which is no great drama except I keep getting diagnostic code L coming up, which is erratic road speed signal input. So what does it mean, any ideas.

Incidently, when the car is warmed through it idles at 700/800 rpm which seems fine...

Cheers

They all do that (sometimes) ? Someone with this problem was told by their dealer that the cars complaining it's being driven too slowly!

Sounds fair enough, it did feel like it wanted to stall... difficult to do a suitably fast speed in a car park though!!

Well a sensible answer is code L means the speedo pickup sensor might need a clean. It's nothing to do with you car stalling - 500 rpm is a little low. 700-900 seems the norm.

Cheers,

Andy.

Cheers Andy,

Any idea where the sensor is...

I'm guessing around the rear axle somwhere...

I think it's on the diff - but the dealers say it's tricky to setup so you may not want to muck about with it yourself.

Editted to say as you've got an older car, you may have the original sensor - there is a newer part which is supposed to work more reliably.

Thanks for the info... I would probably be best leaving it alone then given I can just about manage to check the oil!

I'll get it sorted at the next service...

Thanks again

Scares potential buyers of your vehicle when they see the code L. I told them not to worry about it but they weren't convinced.
