Can I say that TVR customer service at my local TVR centre in (not naming and shaming against the rules) is absolutely cr#p. Sales are not much help either. What made matters worse is that even the company directors didn't care when I complained. The Blackpool customer complaints chap wasn't any better either! Whenever there were issues with my Tuscan I was the one chasing for updates and estimates. I found that if I didn't chase then the car would be left at the back of the queue for attention.
Someone told me that this particular dealership had 4 people sueing them!

Blackpool even told me that companies like Porsche customer service is better because they sell more expensive cars???? Can you believe it..

I wonder if anyone else has experienced bad customer service with local TVR centres and may be even blackpool. When I had an engine rebuild back in 2002 the car was stuck in Blackpool for 4 months... again no one telling me what was going on. Rang the dealership and there answer was 'dunno how long'. So I was the one who rang Blackpool to find out.
SORRY I FEEL SO BITTER but I am justified!

Nigel, this is a curious start to your posting career on PistonHeads. Are you seeking some particular information?

No just curious if its just me to have so much bad luck or widespread. I had Porsches before 'risking' a TVR and am unhappy to say the car was fab but reliablity bad and the customer service worse!
Porsche customer service was always A+ for me..

I agree that the service is not Porsche standard but if you keep on good terms with your dealer they usually persevere and get matters fixed. My experience is that the dealers have just as much frustration with unreliability as the the customers do - and they have to earn a living.

Im not condoning bad service but staying on good terms has helped me a lot - i go out of my way to stay friendly and over time it pays dividends.

But i understand your frustrations as my car drives me nuts and gives me immense pleasure in equal doses!

Just to put "some" balance into this thread, I have had 2 x TVRs over an 8 yr period and must say that the dealers I have dealt with have been excellent, and Portfield (no longer a dealer), Racing Green and Thames Valley Race Sevices (or whatever Steve calls his operation now) especially offer a service equally as good as the standard of the Porsche dealers I experienced during my time running those cars. Rich...

Being nice sometimes doesn't work as some companies
respond to a 'troublesome' customer first that a nice one!

I had a great deal of ignorance to put up with from some main dealers when I was first looking for a TVR and in once instance I had to put up with the greatest disrespect for my custom I think I've ever experienced (and this one was when I'd turned up in my first Griff).

I guess even though I'm a reasonably smart, professional person I didn't fit their image as I'd go in and they'd ignore me or if they did speak to me it was more a case of trying to usher me out of the showroom.

Still, I'm on my third TVR now from an independant specialist and I would agree with the previous post, I keep on very good terms with them, talk to them how I would like to be spoken to and any niggles I've had have been sorted quickly and amicably.

Just goes to show that if you are prepared to do without bright lights and nice carpets you can often find a gem of a dealer tucked away somewhere...

Incidently, the two best main dealers I came across were Hexham Horseless Carriages and TMS, they at least took the time to discuss my requirements and give me a test drive and the indepedent I use is David Gerald TVR, so whilst I would never name and shame, credit where credit's due...

It is so the case tahe we the dealers do get very frustrated with the level of unreliability that these cars suffer. We'd like them to be very reliable but because of the nature of the cars that isnt the case at the moment.

But having said that they are getting better slowly but surley.

Ivan - I appreciate what you are saying but why annoy
the customer further by not providing regular updates,
accurate ETAs on resolutions, etc. When I was inconnvienced by Porsche on one occasion (with my Boxster) they gave me their new 911 Cab demonstrator for the weekend as way of compensation. Sure not every dealership would do this but it shows they bend over backwards to be helpful.

being binned seems a little harsh...

if someone receives bad service they have a right to tell others about it.

i have good, no exceptional service from a wigan based dealer.. much better than anywhere else... going off other experiences of dealers a little further south.

See my previous explanation. I'm afraid we don't have a bill of rights here

I have to agree with the 'not naming - bad service' "rule"

I have recently had an 'unfortunate' situation with a main dealer, but sorted it with them myself, and that's that! No need whatsoever to go 'Public'

Strange, but everyones experience varies. As far as I'm concerned unlike others here I was treated like sh*t by Porsche. I was one of the first to reserve the new Boxster S but after 6 months they denied any reserve had been placed. For my existing Boxster which cost £45000,ex demo with aerokit etc which they wouldnt remove, after 3 years offered £20,000. Basically weren't interested. Told them I was going to look at a Tuscan, fine they said and that was the last contact I had. With my TVR dealer I have had loads of niggly probs but service has been exceptional. I have had phone calls to help me after hours at weekends and loads of free advice. So far TVR locally have restored my faith in people who actually care about the product and the people who own them. Like I say only speaking from my personal experience!

Mike - yes its me...

QualityScrew - glad you got your issues resolved. But if you hadn't then what would you have done about it?

Shame about the 'binned' bit above. All I said was where I lived...nothing wrong with that.

Its funny a chap (sales) who used to work at the company I referred to now works for Porsche... and told me they had lost many customers in the past for the reasons I've mentioned.

YES not all centres treat their customers in this way but at the end of the day they've now lost me forever. Are they bothered? Of course not...... the end.

Nigel,

Sorry to hear about your problems with the Tuscan (sadly though from my experience of that particular car it doesn't surprise me)

As for the dealers you refer to they treated me absolutely briliantly to the point that I began to wonder what was in it for them (i.e they treated me well, but TVR treated them like st).

I thought you'd sold the car on and were buying a 911 Turbo?

If you want to discuss then email me off line (through my profile) although I'm off to Le Mans for 5 days from tomorrow morning

cheers,
Mike.
