Dropped my car off with dealer yesterday and Just had a call from the dealer to say the valve guide seals on my engine are going which is why it has drank 4 litres of oil in the last 1000 miles!!! (There are no physical leaks fortunately).
Thankfully it will be covered by warranty, phew, as I had have only had it two months!!!
(2001 reg car)
Anyway , it means several weeks without it at TVR Power(as my dealer is too busy), but I am going to hang onto it until after Pistonfest....(Must remember to take lots of Oil)

Has anybody else had this problem before?

Would speak to TVR power direct and ask them how long it will be for them to do it, last time I spoke to them about my Griff rebuild they said they could do it straight away. Valve stems seals and guides would normally mean it’s only the head that needs to come off. Wouldn't have thought the engine would need to come out.

Not sure if it meant engine out joobie which is why I added a question mark...to see what it entailed.

Dealer indicated it could take approx 3 weeks (maybe longer) but as I needed it for Pistonfest they could not guarantee it for then so I chose to book it in afterwards..

Not having experience of the speed 6 I wouldn’t like to say the engine doesn’t have to come out but wouldn’t have thought it. Try taking to TVR power direct, would have thought you made the right choice to keep it until after Pistonfest though. TVR power quoted me 2 weeks turn around for a full engine rebuild on the rover V8.

Hi Tone, I do have an extended WH warranty but I am not sure if this is covering it as the dealer said that as I'd had this problem since I bought it the factory had agreed to cover it?

Whoever is paying for it, I don't care as long as it comes back all sorted. Now I am keeping it for Pistonfest , am happy to hand it over afterwards, I think someon efrom TVR power is going to be at PFest with a T400R so will talk to him then.

May have to tag a lift to Geoff if it isn't back by then...

I had the same problem (plus missing 5th gear and assorted rattles) and the car went to TVR Power. It took 6 weeks and while they were changing valve guides they also fitted latest engine upgrades (cams, followers etc) and new piston rings.

The engine has to come out because it is positioned so far back. They remove the engine from underneath.

Got it back a couple of weeks ago but the earliest I could get a 1000mile serice booked was 1st July!!! So even if I could run it in earlier (450miles so far) I have to wait until July before I can start to have proper fun again.

p.s. Charcoal Reflex - snap! - good colour.
