Radio Reception
Discussion
I can now finally listen to the radio in my Tuscan!
I always got a poor signal in the tuscan and the reception would go up and down making it very frustrating to listen to the radio.
Well, I finally got round to fitting on of the Mod Wise aerial kits and what a difference, I get a good steady signal, no interference and even the RDS bits now work!
If you need a boost to your radio you could do a lot worse than a Mod Wise kit, David Beer is a very helpful chap and answered all my questions, he also sent me the kit on a trial basis, so now it is fitted I have to send him some money! But if I had not been happy I could have just sent it back to him - can't say fairer than that!

Please give more details. I have an ordinary JVC head unit together with a boot mounted DAB. Whilst approaching heavy motorway traffic I turned the radio on to listen for traffic reports - but the reception on FM and DAB seemed to come and go. I am not sure what there is in the way of aerials for either system built into the car so could be interested in a mod-wise kit. Tell me more!

Sorry, I do not know anything about the DAB units, but if you contact David through www.mod-wise.com I am sure he will be able to help - if it works as well for the DAB receiver as it did for my FM unit then you will not be disapointed!

No idea if this is the standard placement, but the DAB unit in my Tuscan (non-S) is inside the rear wall of the boot. Slightly to the right of the boot-clasp - mine has a layer of carpet which covers the box & clips on/off. The DAB unit's pretty big though, so it shouldn't be easy to miss if it is under there on yours.
If these kits help I'll be looking at one too. Right now my DAB only receives 2-3 stations and whenever I use the indicators the DAB cuts out completely. Dealer blames it on the LED indicator pods which were replaced in later models partially due to this sort of problem.

A picture, now you are asking....I have a pic someone else sent me of their installation, but let me try to explain it first, then you still want a pic I will email it
The amplifier unit is a box about 2" by 1" by 4" (approx) and has the following connections on it:
- a braided cable about 4" long that goes to the fuel filler neck, this is clamped there using a jubilee clip and then uses the big fuel tank as the earth point (large area helps the reception I believe) so as you may have guessed the booster goes very close to the filler neck and on mine sits behind the cover with my tyre foam
- a black earth cable, red power cable and grey aerial cable joined together, these go to the radio in the front of the car, black to radio earth, red to aerial power cable on old aerial connector, grey to aerial socket on head unit
- the final connection is a short wire to a length of copper aerial, about 5' long and 0.5" wide, this is sticky backed and needs to go as high as possible and as straight as possible, so mine is extended left to right behind the cover again
I am explaining this as I am assuming you think this is an external aerial and want to see what it looks like on the car, as you can tell it is all hidden like the original one (but at the back, not round the windscreen)
Hope this helps, as I say, if you need a picture I can email one or get Ted to add it to this thread

I have only had my tuscan for 3 weeks and after reading these threads decided to look for my arial as I have excellent reception.
It took me a while but I eventually found it - - :-)
the previous owner had stuck a normal car arial in the left front compartment access for the lights!!!
Crap idea but it does work and you would not know its there.
