I phoned up Elephant and Tesco for a quote on a Tuscan. Nightmare!

Tesco woman - whats the manufacturer
me - TVR
Tesco - no, who is the manufacturer
me - TVR
went on like this a bit and finally she grasped it ('oh you mean TVR are like ford or vauxhall, I havent heard of them...?')

Then the bloke at elephant firstly refused to acknowledge the fact that I want the insurance to satrt from my 25th birthday and said he would only quote me being 24 years old. And then told me that a 4 litre TVR Tuscan doesnt exist and they only have a 4.7 litre one on their systems! Argued for a while and he insisted that all Tuscans were 4.7 litres so I gave up :-(

Are any of you insured with Elephant? I am very confused by this!

Christine forget all of that nonsense! Call Mannings on 01491 578 759 and ask for Mathew Hodge
or try
Norwich Union Direct, (i think min age is 25) they may even give you a good quote as Mannings may prefer previous TVR experience - the catch 22!!

Good luck - come back to the forum if you need more

Try calling Malcolm Wallace at Sunninghill, (01276-486002).

Prices are very competitive and he knows TVR's inside out.

Elephant quoted me £5058 for my Chim for 12 months.

I laughed so loud I almost knackered the phone.

For tesco insurance... you can get a quote and buy it online directly from their website

I have tried Sunninghill, they have given a better quote than Tescos (despite having 2 performace cars already with Tescos they wouldnt give a discount :-(..also the website just said to call them).

The Sunninghills quote was £1,280 for when I am 25 (for a Tuscan S). Is this ok?

Thankyou for the suggestions, I will ring around.

Just for your info, I called Sunninghill yesterday for a renewal on my Tuscan. They wouldn't insure me last year as I wasn't 25, which was the minimum age on their policies, but as I turned 25 on Monday (Happy Birthday to meeee! ) thought I'd give them a go and hope for a nice cheap quote.

Unfortunately for me though, when I spoke to the TVR guy there he told me that just 2 weeks ago Royal Sun Alliance changed their policy and have raised the lower age limit to 30, meaning I have to wait another 5 years. Doh!

Still, the chap on the phone gave me the number for A Manning, Classic Car Insurance and someone else. So gonna give them a go at the weekend.

Just thought I'd let you guys know!

So how come I got a quote? Maybe they made a mistake with me. I hope not as they have been the cheapest yet.

PS Happy birthday - 1978 was the BEST year to be born ;-)

Christine, Elephant did not cover Tuscans when I tried about 6 weeks ago - try an online quote at elephant.co.uk When I last tried the Tuscan was not listed, even though the Tamora etc. was. When I called directly they said they couldn't cover a Tuscan.

Tesco wouldn't cover NI (neither does the official scheme)- I'm with Heritage Ins as advertised in the TVRCC mag.

Gary.

Being born then you would of still missed it (been too young) you needed to be in your early teens to enjoy it......... as I did!

I am jealous of that too! Ah well, at least I am seeing Deep purple and Lynnard Skynard on my birthday next month :-)

And can start my TVR insurance that day too - assuming I definetly go for the Tuscan.

I've just moved from Mannings to Sunninghill as they were £400 cheaper so now at £620 per year with Sunninghill + unlimited track days.

From experiences when I bought mine back in Feb, the specialist insurance companies everyone was quoting weren't interested in me at all until I'd had a performance car for at least 12-18 months.

I ended up with Barclays again, but I'm 27 - no idea what their age limits are.

I don't get my Tuscan S until Sept, but as my insurance has just come up for renewal i had to make sure the company i chose for my Vauxhall Vx220 would happily change my policy to insure my tuscan when I get it, without wanting a stupid amount of Money extra. The best quote i got on my VX was 1089 with natwest, and to test what they would be like with the tuscan s i got a quote for how much it would cost me to insure it if i had it now. Very surprised and happy when the response was 1700. This made me very happy, knowing that come sept i will probably only have to part with another 400 or so pounds to insure my new car. 1700 may sound alot, but.....I am only 21 years old and don't have a great postcode for insurance purposes either. Its probably worth giving them a ring and getting a quote. Also bear in mind you can get 10% off if you have a Natwest advantage gold account, and a further 10% if you take home insurance as well. Hope this helps, Steve.
