Squealing brakes...
Discussion
this will probably seem a tad trivial but does anyone have any way to get rid of squealing brakes?
Only happens on relatively light braking, but don't want to have to slam on the brakes everytime to avoid this.
Anyone know why this happens and, more importantly, how to get rid of it...happens on my other car too (Pug 206 Gti)

You should be able to get some anti squeel shims for between the pads and the pistons - check with whoever supplies your brakes and see what they can get - could also try some copperslip - just be careful not to get it on the pad face or on the disc!!
Denis i'm surprised at this, it's often caused by a build up of brake debris (dust) between the pads and the disc, but with drilled discs this shouldn't happen. Are the holes clear ?
Schims are often the best way to stop it on conventional discs, metal ones for the heat and fibre ones for low temp stuff (maybe your Peugeot)
Copper grease is the other way of doing it except it tends to boil very early on!
I have had squealing with cheap pads on other cars, poor compound which probably changes with heat and gums up and becomes glossy. So i'm assuming you have AP pads in the front and something fairly kosher in the back right ?

I get squealing brakes after the discs have heated up after some hard driving. Car is new 1500mls only, pads just checked by the dealer at the 1000m service. Does not bother me too much as they do not squeal all the way from application, just when almost at a standstill....if you know what I mean.

How to start a Topic.
Hold it at one end - remove the wrapper from the other end and bite into that chocolate covered nougat, caramel and hazelnuts, Mmmmmmm!
Sorry I'm on a 'power to weight' improvement programme - or diet as it's sometimes known.
Don't anyone mention 'chocolate' finger followers or 'wagon' wheels, please.

Simon, took a quick look at the discs and the holes appear to be clear. The brakes are standard issue TVR at the front, not sure what at the back but both were on the car from new last September.
As one of the other posts mentioned, this happens once they have warmed up but not necessarily after hard driving, even just on normal pootling around town.
Will have to look into your solution more fully, cause the dealer didn't seem too interested, and seemed to think they could not do anything about it...think it was one of those "they all do that, sir" replies!

Strange - I have a Red Rose spec car and at first it used to squeel like a stuck pig, then, after each service it would be quiet for a couple of thousand miles than start squealing again, but now it is quiet all the time - it may be a new pad material as I have had new pads all round - I get the car serviced at Walldonway if you fancy calling them to ask what they have done?
