I've had my Tusk for a couple of months now and have managed to clock up over 3000 miles including the 'Ride Drive' experience last Friday (I had an ex Met traffic cop who certainly boosted my confidence in trying to control the beast).

In that time it has been trouble free (he says touching everything resembling wood in the close vicinity) apart from some @?’¶*! git using the bonnet as an ashtray

Getting to my point – the tick over revs are gradually reducing. Originally they flickered between 700-800rpm, but now its got as low as 500rpm - infact this morning it stalled. Is this symptomatic of anything scary or just a cable adjustment?

Is there a desired tick over speed?

Jez

They tend to do this when the valves require adjustment.Mine did this when geting close to the 12K mile service, but only dropped to around 6-700 RPM from 7-800 RPM.Have done another 4K miles since then & it has not changed.

Jez,

Not related to 'tick over' but I am doing the 2 day Ride Drive experience next Thur/Fri around North Essex.

On the Friday we are going to Oakfield airfield and in their words...'we are going to take the car to its limits...loose it and then see what happens'

Yup, same thing with mine...started at 800rpm nicely when brand new and stayed there for quite a few months.

However, over the last month or so it has been consistently been 700rpm with odd trips to 800rpm but many more trips to 600rpm and even 500rpm as you say

It has done 4500miles and so I am looking forward to the 6K service, to get all the adjustments made but this really has me concerned too...it just sounds sooo much worse when ticking over at 500rpm that I am resting my foot on the throttle to keep it at 800rpm+...

Is there anything I can do in the interim before service?

Jez, my car (March 2003) has the same problem and I have taken it back to the dealer. Used to idle around 700-800rpm but now can only managed 500rpm and when stopping at junctions etc it either stalls or drops to 100rpm and gets back up to 400rpm.

Kerridges said it sounds like the throttle potentiometer and need to replace / adjust it. I have it booked in for next Thursday (29th May) but it is a real pain as it is getting worse and stalls all the time at junctions even with the clutch depressed! Found I have to heel and toe stylie at junctions now!

I would get it looked at as Kerridges are going to fix mine suggesting something is wrong!

Hope you get yours sorted soon and fingers crossed for both are cars!

Thanks guys - its good to know I'm not suffering alone! Stalling in the High Street is not conducive to the cool factor so I spoke to Racing Green today and they seemed very confident that it could be tweaked and therefore restore the rev count while I wait. Sounds like it could be the throttle potentiometer (thanks Peter).

Alan - All I can say is ENJOY!!!!!
I certainly did - although it was raining most of the time it turned out to be the perfect weather as being an everyday user it was extremely useful to see what it does in extreme conditions. The ex policeman I had as a tutor holds the record for the fasted clocked speed in Central London - 126mph down the Embankment (93mph through a 6'6" width restriction) so he really pushed me - a tad scary at times but thoroughly worth the money. You'll have a blast - I really fancied the track day as well but couldn't rustle up enough spondoolies
