Hi all,

I'm taking my 2003 Tuscan S over to France next month to wake the sleepy villages enroute to the Champagne region.

Can anybody recommend any good routes/fast roads/hotels.

Travelling from Portsmouth to Le Harve.

Cheers in advance,

Chris!

a very nice hotel, close to Reims in the centre of the Champaign region, is "l'assiètte Champenoise".
Probably one of the best restaurants in the whole area, and nice and comfortable bedrooms.
BTW, the bar has a selection of wine and champaign that I never saw before !

Have stayed at that hotel more than once & can also recomend it, but book well in advance. As far as roads are concerned the A26 is fast, but boring motorway & watch out for speed traps, try and stay on the N roads. Can recomend the road from Reimes to Erpernay & onto to Chateau Thierry, Soissons, Folembray & St Quentin.

Can second the choice of hotel made by koen as we stayed there the week before Easter. Food is fantastic and the restaurant is very popular. Only downside with the hotel is the distance to the center of Reims is not what I would call "walking" distance, though it's only a 7 euro taxi fare. More important on the way back after visiting a few champagne caves!

The smaller "D" roads towards Epernay where the Moet cave is, are good fun, quiet with some interesting small villages!

Hotel Angleterre in Chalons - fantastic food, very good hotel and Epernay is only 15 minutes away. Also recommend the 'Route de Champagne' which is a tourist route through the Champagne vineyards where you find all the small producers where you have 'degustation' and buy the stuff the French keep for themselves!
P.S. we managed to get 72 bottles in our Tuscan AND 2 large holdalls of luggage
