My parents recently brought a 98 5 series from an independant bm dealer .When it needed a service 6 months later they took it to a main dealer only to be told it needed an engine rebuild (bore wash a problem not unknown to BMW)Faced with a 3K bill they contacted warranty holdings only to be told it was fare wear and tear the car has done 98K.Any way BMW replaced the engine with a completely new unit F.O.C.
Whilst i do not expect TVR to start giving 100,000 mile unconditional warranties and i do know it is a low production hand built car i do feel we are being used as ginea pigs.
I plan on keeping my tuscan for 4/5 years i do 8,000 miles+ a year this could be at least 2 or 3 rebuilds some what slaughtering any resale value and emptying my bank account as well.
I love the cars looks and i have brought a 2002 car so hopfully it may last the distance.
Maybe i should put a griff engine in it?
Sorry about the rant comments please

I had a griff engine in my new or nearly new Griff(s). 3 of them. (Over 5 years).
And a 400SE.

All had to have at least 1 engine rebuild, even though I tried my upmost to look after them.

So I will NOT be swapping the Speed 6 unit in my Tuscan for one.

IMHO it is logical that ANY new engine will have problems. But over time that engine will become better and more reliable as the manufacturer learns. Simple as that.
So, fingers crossed (no not finger followers), my 'Oct '02 Tuscan will be ok, but if not will be sorted and uprated by the end of the warranty period (Oct 04).

I am not really going to put a v8 in my tuscan. but my point is this i know there are normally problems with all new cars but i do not feel tvr are doing all they could. not many people have done more than 20K with no engine problems.
In the past TVR's were let down by poor a build but they were mechanically sound borrowing parts from ford and rover.Where as now they are for the most part very well screwed together and they look great.
But this does not make up for poor reliabilty,it is putting off new people from speed sixes even die hard TVR fans.Speek to the dealers they will not touch w reg tuscans they will also tell you new car sales are down is this the enonomic climate or has the word got out, it is not just about finger followers.5 to 7 year old griff's still command 1/2 to 3/4 of there new price but they will do 40 -50 K with no major problems.Lets hope we are all as lucky

There are 2 W plate cars for sale at dealers in the classifieds on here. If you look at the Autotrader site there are a few others.

Prices are down on most high performance cars - check the Turbo/GT2 price thread on the Porsche forum. If you want one buy one, otherwise don't. Simple.
