I had similar frustrating problem with my Tuscan (4L 2001 X plate). Car would drive fine under light accleration but once nailed rev limiter effect experienced @ 4000 - 5000 revs. Car referred to dealer who replaced coil, leads,& other bits & bobs but problem remained. Eventually problem identified as faulty lambda sensors. Since replacement of sensors car has not missed a beat. I hope this helps.
