Rebuild 3 imminent!!
Discussion
Recently noticed clattering reappeared so I ran the car over to Racing Green for a second opinion. "Yep it,s not well" came the reply. "Suggest you ring the factory Monday morning". It,s only 2,500 miles since the last rebuild, I am trying to remain chilled about this but it really is a joke, you can,t imagine the stick I am getting from my customers. Quote the twat from lunchtime "Geoff, my lawnmower has had 1 spark plug in 5 years, its, a Honda!! I don,t suppose you want to swap" Unquote. Felt like plugging him, R-Sole.
things like this are always frustrating, and you're right to feel bad about it, but if you do your homework you really should be prepared for this happening .. a quick search through these archives brings up all sorts of multiple rebuild stories... but PH is a great place to find comfort from others in a similar situation.
Chin up.
Chin up.
With respect Jools, the fact that this has happened to others does not make it alright. A rebuild after 2500 miles is just negligent workmanship imho. Either poor quality contruction or poor quality build/fitting. Either way is totally unacceptable and TVR really should not be letting this happen after all this time with these engines...
I thought I had it bad with 4,500 miles between rebuilds. (followers, cams and valves). Anyway, I spoke to a chap (who shall remain anonymous) in the Engine workshop who says (unofficially) that they have it sorted now and they are getting v few back. So I hope it'll be the last time.... Mine's due back next week so I'll let you know ..

Sorry guys did not give you all the information. My car was bought in November 2000. Month of build! not sure. John Kerridge did hold it for me for 3 months, so at least pre September build.First rebuild 5K,second rebuild 12K, gone again at 14.5K. First indication at Racing Green finger followers, engine sounds as it did to previous rebuilds. I have been driving for 34 years and have never had an engine rebuilt. I have requested that the engine be replaced, watch this space.
hi pubman bad news, have you got to ring the factory or are racing green doing it on your behalf? worth having the cam cover taken off to see whats gone, could be just a soft shim(not unknown)fingers crossed.at least you dont have to go far for a stiff drink!

Thanks Andy,
Looks like a Blackpool visit again via Racing Green,
stiff drinks! I think I have had enough for one day!
sorry to hear the news Pubman.
Mine has just been into Racing Green for some repairs. But I'm not convinced that the problems have been satisfactorily solved.
Basically, the wire to the lambda sensors came loose and got eaten by the aircon compressor. The wire was repaired but the car was running very rich so concluded that the sensors were not working still. Booked in to Racing Green and the day before I went in I drove the car home from work and suddenly there was a very loud tapping sound from the engine!
Racing Green fixed the lambda sensors and said that as there car had been runnning so rich there had been bore-wash with petrol getting into the oil, and thinning it. They also said that the shims needed adjusting/replacing.
Unfortunately all work was undertaken out of warranty as it was not covered.
However, whilst the car is running fine, the engine is still very tappetty, I don't know if it is my imagination (as I am listening out for it) but it seems louder than before.
I know that the car has had a back-to-blackpool engine rebuild once since new.
Exactly how loud should the top end be before you KNOW that there is a serious problem?
