Is it normal to have the smell of petrol in the boot when you lift the rear flap up? the cap is secure?

Don't want to worry you, but I got this from my new Chimaera, and the atnk had a hole in it, which I only found when my shopping was lying in 2" of petrol in the boot, which was dripping out onto the hot exhaust! HHC were horrified, and fixed it pronto, and refunded all my ruined CD's, medical bag, etc. etc. get it checked, and pull off the carpets, to see if any breather pipes are loose, or whatever...
