Basic Tuscan questions
Discussion
I love the Tuscan. I have wanted one ever since it came out, just been waiting for depreciation to bring them down to a nearly affordable level (£20k probably).
Anyway, I can remember that at some point early on they changed the Tuscan and made it a hell of a lot more expensive. When was that? I have looked at second hand ones and the cheapest currently are about £25k for 2000 models.
What was the original retail of the 2000 models? I can't remember. What changed when they put the price up? Have they made the engines more reliable over the few years they have been out (meaning I would have to wait even longer to get a reliable one!)
Am I just dreaming?

The big price hike came with the Tuscan S, but then you got a whole load of stuff as standard fit (air con, colour coded boot and steering wheel, DAB radio etc) so it wasn't really a big price hike, more producing a car that lots of people were specc'ing anyway.
As with any TVR, things have changed over the years, so some components will be different and some bits of trim will have changed (the extra bit on the door trim for example and the window switches moving from the very very early ones)
As for the engine, well, they had some issues with components of a duff nature, and so engines needed rebuilding, but since they would have been rebuilt with any modified bits, then as long as an early car has had a rebuild then you have (more or less) a later engine anyway
Do your homework, find a car with the spec you want for the price you think is fair and then come on in, the water is loverly

I know the Tuscan S is a higher priced model (and the R). I just thought that when the Tuscan first came out it was about £32k, then they hiked the price to around £40k. The S is about £49k isn't it? I'm sure I can remember reading about it in the car mags. Maybe I imagined the whole thing.
Have Tuscans ever retailed in the low thirty thousands?

My car was delivered sept 2000. Basic price 38k, hydratrack, aircon, 18" wheels, fancy paint and other bits left a total of 43k. My order 'fixed' this price in about May 2000. by September, the basic price was 48k, but included all the stuff I had, and a bit more - so mid 2000, there was a 10k hike, and a big big spec upgrade.Edited to say - my car is not red-rose - this was about another 5k at the time.

The cheapest price I can remember hearing for a new Tuscan is £36k. I put a deposit down for mine at the 98 motorshow and it was fixed for £38 plus extras. TVR were also taking orders at The 97 motorshow the and fixed the price at £36k. Any cars ordered after the 98 motor show would have been for the retail price of £39750. The early orders were forfilled first and as you might expect from TVR the early cars had more problems. These Tuscans were 4.0 ltr sspeed 6's with a optional uprated red-rose pack which had harder suspension and a bit more BHP (10-30bhp more i think). Towards the end of 2001 TVR re-specced the cars. They decided to make the normal Tuscan a 3.6 ltr Speed 6 for £39750, and the Tuscan S for £48-49 k a 4.0ltr speed 6 with the red-rose mods as standard plus a few other extras, including a mini spoiler on the back, and the rear indicators moved to a more traditional position :-((
I guess if you're looking at a second-hand car have a look at the log book to see when it was first registered, and look at the engine size. My 4.0 ltr speed 6 was one of the last of the standard 4.0 speed 6's off the line and I had it delivered in Dec 2001. No doubt though whichever you get - it's gonna be a kick-ass ride!!
