In the prosses of swapping the 500 for a y-reg Tuscan S at the moment
Dont really know much about the tuscan and have my 2nd test drive tomorrow
Has anyone else gone from the chimaera to a tuscan?
Was it a good decision?

Went from a Griff 500 to a Tuscan S.
Must admit I was a bit unsure at first when I couldn't rev the Tuscan much over 3500 rpm or 4000 at most especially when you consider the Tuscan was double the value of the Griff. But now I'm revving it to 5500rpm. Jeeeeeeeeeeeez it's fast.....and getting faster.
Also, the brakes are so, so much better. and suspension etc etc...
IMHO sounds bloody great too. Tuscan S's have a different exhaust system to normal Tuscans don't they? ie sound better and probably give a bit more bhp.
So no. I don't regret it.

Chimi500,

Yes I did just that and collect my new car from Castle TVR this Saturday - even bigger GRIN now

Although I can't say how good a decision it was (haven't got it yet)...from the feedback I have got to date...I don't think I'm going to regret it. Your only on this earth the once...so enjoy it TVR style!

Alan.

As the posting states big grin

I had a chim 4l so I noticed a big power gain on the Chim and the handling is so much better than the chim.

Things I miss about the chim:-
The interior, I did like the chim interior, very old sports car type of way.

V8 Growl, the Tuscan does sound like a sowing machine sometimes, and as its rattley type of engine I wondered if there was something wrong with the engine for the first week of ownership.

Oh, and I get a headache driving the Tuscan.

Apart from that, I love it

Yeh, don't know why but I do, I think its because I have to forcefully stop myself from driving over the NSL, which is just too easy to do in the Tuscan

Well do let us know if you have to give it up for medical reasons and need to donate it to a good home - you may need to take doctors orders!

Yes Luca, sadly this is me as well - Chim and a Tuscan, very different wild horses from the same stable!

Which do I prefer? Difficult choice because they are so different: One is a fork, the other a Knife! you can't spread jam well with one of them...confused (I am)

Chim: Wonderful, wonderful V8 power and sound with a classic British sports car profile. Poor handling, poor brakes, bitchy under power!

Tuscan: Head rushing power, OK to strange sound with a completely unique sports car profile - a real head turner. Excellent handling for a rwd, excellent brakes, controllable under power

So I imagine the S is even more controllable and therefore that much more of a PH'ers car

Ok people what have I got wrong?

This is my experiance of a '97 Chimp 500 to 2001 Tuscan. These are my thoughts only and come from my experiance only. (Sounds like a disclaimer to me!!)

You will always miss the Chimaera 500 engine note. ALWAYS.
You will worry about the reliability of the Tuscan compared to the (my) bullet proof Chimaera 500, however the Tusc is a modern sportscar which looks and feels professionally put together, whereas the Chimp was great in an advanced kit car sort of way.
Every aspect of the Tusc is better (and different) in my experiance (except the noise) and you should do it. Do it now!!!!
PS - Not that it matters much but the Tuscan is better for Economy by upto 8 miles a gallon and Cheaper to Insure - Very strange I know, Same company (Tesco's) now only £694 where as the CHimp was £745.. Absolute Bargain.

Well. I've gone from a 4ltr Chimp, to a 5ltr Griff, to a Tuscan, and now await delivery of my Tuscan S. I have gradually progressed through the TVR 'stable' as they have progressed. Yes, you do miss the V8 'burble' at first, but soon that is forgotten as the emphasis of the Tuscan is better build quality, better brakes, better handling, stunning looks, etc. etc.etc.
The Tuscan feels so much more of a solid build, hardly any rattles, creaks, groans, water leaks etc.
My advice...... DO IT, NOW!

I've now covered 22000 miles in my Tuscan and yes, I have had the full engine rebuild, but apart from that, it has been fairly trouble free - the odd niggle or two, all easily sorted by the dealer, and I use mine EVERY DAY!
