On recent test drive, dealer said that the noise I could hear was the rear screen squeaking/rattling and that this could be sorted by a bit of vaseline on the rubber seals. Is this all that is required? or is it soomething more srious?

I presume yet another TVR -type foible..

Yup you've got it Salty, a bit of vaseline, or I use a synthetic clear grease (silicone/PTFE grease) but this can be a pain in the tail pipe because if you use too much it gets on your bodywork or the screen when you take it out = smear!

I have found, and it's worth looking at yours, that the boot sits hard on the rear screen and rubs (squeaks)

i've recently put a couple of thin rubber stick-on pads on the screen at this point (not visible from outside. Thinking about it, it would have been better to stick them under the actual boot lid at the leading edge (doh!)
This has stopped a lot of the noise

Most passengers ask what's that noise? but funny thing is that I don't really hear these noises any longer, i've either cured it or my ear is tune with the engine (or i'm deaf!)

hope this helps

Try Rubber & Nylon lubricant from Halfords. Comes in a yellow spray can.

Take rear screen out, spray lubricant on a bit of kitchen paper. Rub round rubber screen seal (it looks wet when first applied but dries very quickly). Replace screen. No more squeaks.

Work really well on mine and also stops squeak where windows rub against rubber seals. Doesn’t seem to smear either and is a lot less messy than Vaseline.

Velcro fixes it and doesn't need to be reapplied and no mess. Look through my profile it was one of my earlier posts in Aug 2001.

You shouldn't need to be putting rubber pads on the boot lid, there should be a fabric strip along the boot lid to stop the rubbing, also, Walldonway put some sort of material along the top of the rear screen, where it sits on the roll hoop, and my roof no longer squeals and also stays in place better.

The early rear screens were a poor fit, the later ones were cut a bit bigger and also had a locating lug to sit between the bottom catches

Hope this helps
