That was me, taking my Mum for her first drive in my new wheels!
We saw 3 TVR's on that journey - 2 on Hangar Lane and 1 on the Westway heading east. I flashed my lights at the first bloke but he didn't see me in time I don't think, and I think I was too late to flash (ooer) at the second. The 3rd one was on the A40 filter lane - was that you? Did you shout "Lucky!" at me? (or was it something else?!)

Yes - that was me and I did say "lucky" with a jovial envy in my voice . . . . was it an "S" reg? Is this another West Londoner joined? PS What colour is that?
I was hoping to stop for a chat - and recruit you to PH in case you weren't a member!
Welcome aboard and enjoy . . .
Hope your mum enjoyed it - my mum loves a lift in the Chimaera and she's 75!

Hi Rob, nice to meet you. It's a 2000 (X reg) car, but it came with a private plate - 531 UPK - so I guess it could look like an S reg if you're flying past in another TVR! The colour is titanium, which is dark silver really. mmmm.... All black interior.
My Mum loved it, of course! I didn't put my foot down though, don't like her to worry about me...
Basil Brush -
I ended up buying privately. Found a one-owner 9000 mile car (new engine at 8000 miles) which lived 10 mins from me. The previous owner, Mark, is a Tuscan yahoo-groups member and contacted me when he heard I wanted a car, saying he was just about to advertise his. I got Rob Ingleby (the TVR guru) to look at the car for me. He declared it a good 'un, one of the nicest, and said if it was the colour combo I wanted (it was) I should probably make an offer. He dealt with making the offer for me, and I got the final phone call saying "Congratulations, you've bought yourself a Tuscan!" as I was on the runway at Heathrow about to take off to New York. It was a very bizarre moment. Then began the 7 day wait, picking the car up when I got home again! arghh... torture. But still, Rob took a few more photos for me and emailed them so I had something to look at, and I collected her on Valenteine's Day. ahhhh!
21TVR -
The verdict? Love it. Went out for a run on the A40 again today, and I lost count of the number of people who yelled and waved at me. That happens *way* more when the roof is off (is this because I'm a girl?). And more importantly, yesterday it served it's intended practical purpose - taking a guitar amp and 2 guitars to band rehearsal. That boot is mammoth!! Excellent.
The only problems I've had are:
- seat belt (driver's) sometimes locking up
- door window sometimes not going up after closing door (a few more closes does the trick)
- brake warning light constantly on. this is supposedly just a dodgy sensor at the handbrake, no big deal, will visit Mole Valley next week and introduce myself... Mark's wife has a Tamora, so we're gonna drive down in convoy
and a new one tonight....:
- could not engage reverse! Reverse has always been a bit stubborn to engage, but this evening it just locked up. This is a bit of a concern. I'm gonna start a new thread about it if anyone has any ideas...

Girlracer welcome to the party any chance of a piccy or two to grace the pages of this site?? Hanger lane seems to be a bit of a Mecca for TVR's was down there the other day to see a stunning Grigio Titanio Tuscan with anthracite wheels driver was not shall we say hanging around as they entered then left the junction !!
Girlracer, I thought it was Marks Tuscan !! I have a picture of his Tuscan behind mine on the airfield at Elvington last year.
It's a 1 meg file. Let me know if you want it emailed to you.
As for reverse "Always" slip it into 5th gear before you engage reverse and it will not crunch. Standard practice on all T5 gearbox TVR's.
Cheers

This is one of 'they all do that' TVR quirks. Had the same problem on my Griff and before that on my Cerbera. Had both belts changed on the Griff under warranty and voila! - they're still the same. Others I've spoken to seem to have the same problem. If the car's on anything but dead level ground (keep a spirit level handy) they can be a bit reluctant to move.
And congrats on your purchase.
Cheers, Paul
Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I know the trick about 5th before reverse, and have been using it. Last night it was completely reluctant to go in at all, whereas this morning it was just very hard (oo-er), two-handed job! (oo-er again!!) Seems to be back to it's usual give-it-a-good-hard-tug self again.
My concern though is that the constant brake warning light, which I'd been told was a dodgy sensor, my in actual fact be trying to tell me that I'm low on clutch fluid. I guess I have to break out the handbook tomorrow and try to figure out how to open the bonnet.

Whitey - yes, I'd love to see that pic please. Can you email it to sallycrewe@thesuddenmoves.com?
thanks!

oh dear, sorry to tell you this but if you are having difficulty with selecting gears (just reverse?) and your handbrake warning light is on, it could be warning you that your brake/clutch reservoir is low.(The clutch and brake reservoir is combined on the Tuscan) It is situated behind the pedals, no need to remove the bonnet ! Have a look, the fluid should be about 1cm from the top. If it is low, ring your dealer, no good driving without brakes or a clutch. It could be your clutch slave cylinder seals.(Inside the gearbox) Is there any fluid leakage under the gearbox ? This is a common problem as the heatsoak perishes the seals. I had mine fixed under warranty(Warranty Holdings).
I hope it's just a dodgy sensor !
I will email the picture now.
Cheers

Well the car was serviced prior to me viewing it, and since I had it thoroughly checked over by Rob I'd be very surprised if he missed something that severe. He was under the car for hours... but maybe he was just having a nap!
You can make the light go off by wiggling the handbrake lever. That would be good news, right?....
I would like to check the clutch/brake resevoir though. How is this accomplished? I've got some tools and I don't mind getting mucky.
You already told me how to do it - sorry! wasn't paying attention...

probably just the switch then !
Well, just stick your head down in the drivers footwell. Above your head is the fusebox, infront of you the pedals, and behind the brake pedal you will see the clutch/brake fluid reservoir. You can visibly inspect it, you should see a clear line where the fluid is.
Have fun !
Cheers

PS. Only way to check slave cylinder seals is to remove gearbox, so they can go at anytime.
