Immobiliser/key fob issues - help!

For some reason my key fob no longer operates the immobiliser, which means that fiddly job of finding the socket on the dash every time the engine is stopped. Not sure why this has happened, may have something to do with a flat battery a while ago???? Anyway does anyone know how to reset the system or what may be causing the problem.

If its a Meta then take my advice, do not ignore it. My Meta did just that and would work for another 4-5 months and then with no warning it cut in mid-overtake on a country road!! Scary and rather embarrasing. I have overridden it for now until i decide which to go for.
