30 degrees if I'm in a hurry, otherwise 40ish...If there's time, I leave it running in the garage for about 10-15 mins.

A couple of times when its been really cold, and the oil temp is only 6 degrees, the engine has turned over a few times, then dies. You will also see really high oil pressure until its sufficiently warm.

Just try to wait for 30 degrees if you can, then keep it to 2500rpm until 50 degrees.
Just my opinion, of course.

Yes, under 6 degrees mine also dies after a few seconds.

As for leaving it running until it reaches 30 degrees before driving off??? Doesn't mention anything like that in the handbook, although I bet it's a good idea. I just keep it below 2500 rpm until it (oil) reaches 60 degrees. And then gradually give it slightly more stick (but only up to 4500 rpm max as only on 920 miles).

I must admit I find all these different theories about warming the enigine/oil up very confusing and worrying. Especially when you then read that if you treat the engine too kindly when in the running in period you can glaze the bores, which then means you have to have an engine rebuild and run it in again!

I also cross my fingers. That seems to have worked so far!

I have always just started it up and driven off within a few minutes ie reverse out of garage & close doors.Although it is important to kept the revs down until the oil temperature reaches 50 DegC.Leaving the engine just on cold idle for long periods of time can also bad for an engine as the excess petrol can wash the oil from the cylinder bores.

Agree with Nick on leaving the car ticking over. I've got a couple of those electric greehouse heater tubes which are placed under the car. Oil temp is usually about 15C on start up. Keep it under 2500 until >55/60. Can be a bit of a pain being overtaken by all until up to temp, but you soon catch them all up!

Keep the garage at 20C and then drive gently until 50C is reached.

I wait until it gets to around 40 degrees then move off or 35 if I'm in a hurry. It takes about 10 mins from around 12 degrees.

Anyone got any ideas about water leaks? I got to my car to find the boot and drivers footwell waterlogged.

I think a drive to the dealer to apply some sealant is in order!
