Has anyone done a Q and A type post? There are quite a few things that puzzle me about Tuscans, ie
Red Rose---What is it?/ pros/cons
3.6/4.0 engines---what's the story?
Best build date-----after?
Air con-------------pros/cons
Throttle cables snapping--------solution?
Finger followers---------do I want to know about this one
What to look out for, when buying used

I can answer a couple questions:

Best build date----- I collected mine in September 2001 and there have been no major problems to date.

Air con------------- Pro - keeps you from overheating; Con - mine was defective and it took nearly a year to get it sorted, just in time for winter...

Throttle cables snapping-------- I asked the factory about this at my last service and they replace the original mechanical parts which can cause excessive wear if not aligned properly with a new system that is easier to adjust and causes less stress on the cable.

Finger followers--------- I ask them to check this at every service and so far no probs. I've also been told that the ticking noise they cause is normal...

Best build any tus after Jan2001
Red Rose cant see the point, had both new one with roller throttle bodys and induction kit eats anything.
No probs with finger followers or engine (more reliable than my VW)
3.6 revs harder and faster than 4.0.
Throttle cables, factory have new mod changing the position of cable down at peddle box.
Air con ? I live in Scotland.

Just to add - mines an October 2000 and it has been spot on. 14,000 miles and no significant problems other than the minor niggles that you get with any new TVR. I think the ones to exercise caution with are the very early V/W plate 2000 models, but even they should be OK if the owner has taken time and care to get things sorted out. It is inevitable that TVR will learn more about building the cars as time goes on and little improvements creep in here and there - but the learning curve will be steepest in the first 6 months of production. The finger follower issue carried into 2001 production so no immunity there and there have been some engine issues even with 2002. As an owner though, the benefits out weigh the 'potential' problems and I can say that I for one have had a positive experience with mine.

2 more questions, after seeing a 2001 June build car today.
1st---the drivers door catch held on to the door when opening, so you had to pull the door as the catch first released, to get it open.
2nd, while looking at the owners book in the boot, the boot lock started taking a brainstorm, and just kept going on and off. After closing the boot and seting the alarm, it seemed ok, but then went awol again when the alarm was put off!
Oh, and the cigarette lighter came out, lock stock and barrel
Lovely car though----dark purple metalic, which the dealer called Rollex blue! 1 owner 2600 miles 33k cash.

I've never been in a TVR where the door opens by itself. They always need that little extra human touch to get them fully open.

Black-----it pops open, about an inch or 2, but the catch is still holding it after that. You have to pull the door at the same time as it's opening-----if you see what I mean.

That door catch sounds like it needs adjusting. I've seen this on Tuscans before. Once the release button is pressed, the window should drop and the door pop open an inch or two - but should then be clear to open and not still be on the catch.

Good colour nearly got mine in that, think i know the car had the same door prob when i looked at it.
But a lot of tuscans the door sticks on the catch when very cold as the fiberglass contracts and expands, was it a cold day?
Think it was in at claires at dreadnought TVR you can call her and ask about it,but it is a good car.
Also there is a X plate red rose reflex one in at Grassicks of perth, you could get it for £28K.
