Why Hide It ?

The speed six engine is a nice looking piece of kit. Why hide it under a sealed bonnet, after all half the fun is showing your mates the engine. How difficult would it be to convert the bonnet to conventional opening, and has anyone done it ?

it's for the strenght. it's about 5 min work.

I presume that's "rigidity" kind of strength as opposed to saving your bacon when you plough in to the scenery kind of strength. I thought it was also designed like this to minimise the weight

Couldn't agree more. I would have thought that most people that buy a proper sports car want to see the engine. Bum decision from TVR.

Dead right the dancing donkey 360 even has a clear engine cover so you can see the motor without taking the bonnet off. the tuscan engine is probably covered so that when it goes bang your mates carnt see the bits sticking out the side and laugh!!!!

Bloody hell, it's only 4 bolts and 2 catches, hardly takes all day to remove it! If your friends do want to look at the engine, then let them - although why do they want to look at an engine? Surely it is better to get inside and see what it can do.....or are they engine designers? All I ever see ni an engine bay is a lump of metal and some wire things, it doesn't really get me that excited ================ Graham and Rosie

A lot of people do have interest in things mechanical, including the majority of my friends. I wouldn't say they get excited, but they admire the engineering, which to me is part of the interest in the ownership of unusual cars. Judging by the vigorous defence of TVR's own engine on this website it seems a lot of owners are similarly inclined. Can we assume you don't care who's product is under the bonnet ?

Have to say, I don't lose any sleep about not being able to open the bonnet at will, but on the other hand, my previous V8S was great in the way the whole front folded forward revealing the entire engine, front chassis and suspension (except when the support sliiped out and it crashed onto the tarmac)

Maybe its to hide the felt tip 'red rose' The felt tip is real, although the engine was photoshopp'd on afterwards by TVR ! Edited by RobM on Wednesday 25th July 22:28

Er no, you can assume I made the effort and took the bonnet off!! Then once I had looked at it, confirmed it looked like the pictures I had seen (complete with felt tip) I had little more interest in it Now driving it, that is different, but if it performed the same with another manufacturers engine would I care? Try having a look at yer Boxster engine!!! More than 4 bolts to get a look at that!!!
