I understand that on a Mk2 Tuscan the PAS has an electric pump.
I'm assuming the same on my 2006 Tuscan Convertible.
Can anyone tell me where the pump relay is ?
I lost power steering last week and can't find any details for the steering.

Cheers,
Tony.

Assuming it is the same as the Tam, T350 and Sag then it is a grey, weather proof relay in the front of the engine bay on the manifold side.

It is a Peugeot item that is obsolete.

Might be able to see it via the service bonnet.

Had a couple of the standard power steering relay fail on my Tuscan. The actual relay can be removed from the grey case and replaced with a Renault part number 8200253922 which has a higher contact rating.

The grey Citroen(?) relay is usually the problem .. it's underrated ... I have 3 fail and upgraded it years ago ... so you've done well to last this long smile

Those replacement relays look like the VAG '460' relay - 1KO 951 253A. Pin arrangement looks the same. Rating is 60amps.

On the printed circuit diagram on the side of the relays the Renault relay has a vertical line and triangle attached below the solenoid (diode?) where as the VAG one has a rectangle which is a resistor (don't know specs of this).

Any opinions on the suitability of using the VAG item (which you can get new)?

Don't know about VAG , but this was my original and my replacement (which I've carried as a spare for 10 years and never needed) ... I was pleased I had hinged the bonnet when I was having PAS trouble smile .

So that comes up as a relay with a resistor so the VAG item may work. Goes to find the relay out of the Sag to check fittment.

Thank all, will get it changed in the coming days.

Funny thing is, I'm currently working as an Electrical Systems Engineer and and half my work seems to be replacing obsolete relays. laugh

Hi again.

When you upgraded to 60 amp did you change the base connector ?
Looking online, the pin widths look bigger.

Cheers.

I've had four fail on me .. replaced it a 45 amp relay (IIRC) and got it moved to inside the passenger footwell...no problems since smile
The Citroen one is cheap and nasty and the contacts get pitted.

Just read previous threads it was a 70 Amp or 75 Amp I replaced it with.
.....replaced the PAS wiring for me making a much tidier job, PAS wiring loom cost me £30 , the relay £9

Hi NCE61, how did you manage to get the old relay out of the grey housing ?

Mine wont budge!

Hi Tony from memory as it was 15 years ago I just used two small screwdrivers in slots in the base of the relay that release the holding tabs and then pulled it out with a pair of pliers. Used the same method with the replacement relay to remove it from its case.

Hi NCE61, Mine was glued in.
Brute force, resulting in a nice slice of my thumb, got it out.

For info, the Renault relay is still available for £40 to order.
The WAG relay is also still available at £20 to order.

I went to a local Auto Electric Garage who gave me a GM - Tyco relay for £5.

The Tyco relay is 70amp rated and so has larger blade terminals which I had to file down.

When I said I would file them down the Auto Electric chap gave me a second relay free of charge just in case I screwed the first one up. smile

All good now.

Yes, just have to file the width of the connectors down about 0.3 of a mm.
The thickness is 1.2mm as aposed to the original 1mm but they plugged in without any problem.
