Hi,

Relatively new to TVR having recently picked up a Tuscan Mk1 S.

Surprisingly few issues so far, which is great. I’ve replaced a fatigued 100amp fuse behind the alternator, and that’s about it. Runs fine now and doesn’t need charging every six hours 😂

Anyway, the other niggle I have is the cig lighter which has corroded pretty badly with age. I’ve managed to clean it up a bit to the point where I can argue that it is technically working, but the housing has deteriorated and really it needs a proper fix.

Have been trying to source alternatives, but non that fit into the cutout in the console. The part number on mine is 73947080 from Valeo. I found some Toyota equivalents but not in the right colours. Pics below.

Anyone has any suggestions?

Vroom vroom.

Is it not just a generic cigarette lighter, like these?

I tried one of these which has the flanged plastic light ring and looks like the original, but the diameter of the outer housing is 28mm and the hole on the console is either 27mm or a little less so it won’t fit. I couldn’t find an easy way to alter it to get it in either.

This one from an E9 M5 is the right shape, but wrong colour (orange instead of green):

Toyota also used these, but again in the wrong colour, albeit not as bad:

The only piece I really need is the plastic housing. Maybe I’ll try a Toyota one with a green bulb, if I can find something, and see how that goes.

Otherwise I’ll probably just keep an eye out for breaker parts.

I found, in my error buying a new one in an old car a few years ago just to charge my phone, that there are 2 sizes of cigarette lighter. European (21.5mm) and USA / Japan (21.0mm) ones are 1/2 mm different in internal diameter. The spring loaded sides of charge leads usually compensate for this , usually. rolleyes

The bodies are therefore also slightly different sizes:

This is what racetechdirect offer under part no M1782

https://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/car-parts/electri...

They mention it might need modification to fit though.

My illumination surround broke on my MK1 S so I endeavoured to locate the original which I discovered was from a Land Rover Defender.

I’ve just checked and there is one available on a well known online auction site. wink

I can message you the link if needed.

I hope this helps.

So this one looks like the one I got online just from elsewhere and is too big.

I did notice this one though. See how the grey plastic shroud part is the same as in my picture? I reckon one of these might work if I can get the bezel off:

Bah, sadly no bueno. Even though it looks the same, the plastic housing is wider so it wouldn’t fit.

Old:

New:

Anyway, I managed to transfer the guts and the bulb and all back in place. I haven’t driven anywhere in the dark yet so don’t know if the light works, but everything else does.
