TUSCAN Titanium Gear lever
Discussion
Morning! i wonder if anyone can help out, im looking for somewhere that can supply a titanium gear lever/gear knob for a Tuscan MK1. Like a lot of them the central console gets hot but lately after an hour of driving i cant touch the gearstick without a cover over it or wearing a glove (any wearing one glove makes me look a little like a bad Michael Jackson impersonator - eeeh-heeeee!)
I know you can get a 'heat blanket' to wrap the gearbox etc in and I've chatted to Dom at TVR Power who suggested it maybe worth trying to source a titanium or Bakelite lever to stop the transferring of the heat. Dom used to get hold of the Titanium ones but hasn't been able to for a while now. i know changing the lever will still mean the handbrake and rear vent are scorching but i'd be happy with being about to just change gear without 3rd degree burns.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

I changed my gear stem to the round knob years ago to ceramic (IIRC) ... I think Graham Varley (of Sag Workshop Manual) had them made... It's so long ago I doubt there are any hanging around
.
You could always try a fibre washer between the shaft and the knob... may help a little

PS If it's a hot day and the roof is off, I stick a hat over the gear knob/hand brake

Would it be easier to machine the gear knob and use a plastic insert like this?

Thank you all for the speedy reply.
I'm used to it getting hot on warm days, so when the roofs off i cope, but now its in cold temperatures too and over 6 years of having the car its never been this bad. Dom was surprised it was this hot without the weathers help too.
I'll look at that different knob thank you and as for the person that MAY have one, keep me posted as if its going (and you use Dom for easy of getting it from you) i'd be very interested
Anything to help otherwise next years Nurburgring trip will be a killer
cheers

If something has changed then I'd try and figure out what, where excess heat from the engine is involved. Do you have cats fitted? yeah its been getting a little worse over time (I'm out in it most weekends though)
As for the CAT I honestly can't remember which sounds bad sorry, i used to have them for sure, and they were shot so Dom said he had some he could use to get me by - however when i last saw him he mentioned that he thought mine had no CATS when i queried an issue - so now I'm not sure, perhaps he got rid as the solution. I'll have to check
Out of interest how woudl that effect the heat? i only ask as i was chatting to a fellow owner on Instagram and he asked the same question - I'll be honest I love my car to bits but am a real novice when it comes to the mechanics

I bought one a few years ago for my Mk 1 but it couldn't be fitted. The factory had properly threadlocked the bottom of the original fit shaft and my specialist maintainers feared they were going to damage the gearbox by forcing a removal so we gave up. I lent it to someone on here to try and he never gave it back nor paid for it. I think that was a Racetech one. I'd investigate trying to insulate or divert heat away from the top of the tunnel. Funnily enough my handbrake always got hotter than the gear lever.
