Am busy charging up the battery from flat and whilst I can lock and unlock the car with a partial charge now (which turns the alarm on and off) the immobiliser won’t let go. The light stays solid red. The battery is nowhere near charged so will the immobilser come back on-line when its charged up a bit more? The fob thing doesn’t seem to turn it off but I may not be using it correctly, all I’m doing is inserting it the slot for a couple of seconds and then removing it but alas the red light stays on.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Presuming it's an Meta alarm / immobiliser system, a system reset can often help. Very low battery can cause issues.

So when the battery is fully charged, disconnect it at the terminal clamp completely (with a door open just in case!) for about 30 seconds and then reconnect, with fob handy in case it triggers the alarm. On all my Chimaeras, Cerberas and Griff this has not caused a problem and actually worked, but they all had META systems.

If the battery has been flat for a while your immobiliser could be goosed. I had to bypass mine after my car was sitting for a while and will need to get it replaced when I get round to it.

Thanks, will try this as soon as the battery is charged.

I had exactly this recently. Car had been in storage on condition charger, but still the battery died and barely had enough power to open a door.

New battery installed, but even so the imobiliser never recovered and had to be removed and sent away for replacement. HHC took care of it all effortlessly and with quick turn around. New imobiliser installed and two new fob things, all exactly the same as original. I thought the bill for under £400 wasn't too unreasonable given what modern immobiliser grimlins can cost to fix...

Abacus alarms are really good if you can't get it going.

Unfortunately they are in South London and nowhere near me. Thanks anyway.

I thought you meant they come out and fix it for you installing a new immobiliser if the current one is fried.

Just to bring this thread up to date, now all sorted. Disconnected the battery and after reconnecting it it all came back on.

Cheers guys.

smile Nice to see the old IT advice trick of turning it all off and turning it on again worked. In an IT project in the late 1990s, I was actually surprised how often it worked!
